Amazon.com Holy camp site, Batman! After a fabulously successful season on TV, the campy comic book adventure hit the big screen, complete with painful puns, outrageous supervillains, and fights punctuated with word balloons sporting such onomatopoeic syllables as "Pow!," "Thud!," and "Blammo!" Adam West's wooden Batman is the cowled vigilante alter ego of straight-arrow millionaire Bruce Wayne and Bruce Ward's Robin (a.k.a. Dick Grayson, Bruce's young collegiate protege) his overeager sidekick in hot pants. Together they battle an unholy alliance of Gotham City's greatest criminals: the Joker (Cesar Romero, whooping up a storm), the Riddler (giggling Frank Gorshin), the Penguin (cackling Burgess Meredith), and the purr-fectly sexy Catwoman (Lee Meriwether slinking in a skin-tight black bodysuit). The criminals are, naturally, out to conquer the world, but with a little help from their unending supply of utility belt devices (bat shark repellent, anyone?), our dynamic duo thwarts their nefarious plans at every turn. Since the TV show ran under 30 minutes an episode (with commercials), the 105-minute film runs a little thin--a little camp goes a long way--but fans of the small-screen show will enjoy the spoofing tone throughout. Leslie H. Martinson directs Lorenzo Semple's screenplay like a big-budget TV episode minus the cliffhanger endings. --Sean Axmaker
Product Description When Batman (Adam West) and Robin (Burt Ward) get a tip that Commodore Schmidlapp (Reginald Denny) is in danger aboard his yacht they launch a rescue mission. But the tip is a set-up by four of the most powerful villains ever who seek to defeat the Dynamic Duo once and for all! Armed with a dehydrator that can turn humans into dust the fearsome foursome intends to take over the world! Can the Caped Crusaders use their high-flying heroism and groovy gadgetry to declaw Catwoman (Lee Meriwether) ice the Penguin (Burgess Meredith) upstage the Joker (Cesar Romero) and stump the Riddler (Frank Gorshin) in time?System Requirements:Running Time: 105 minutesFormat: BLU-RAY DISC Genre: ACTION/ADVENTURE/CLASSICS Rating: PG UPC: 024543523703 Manufacturer No: 2252370

HOLY SMOKE BATMAN! NICE DVD EDITION! October 8, 2008 13 out of 13 found this review helpful
Well after watching a few of the newer Batman films, I figured it was time to revisit the original Batman Movie from the mid 60's. Both DVD releases are the same, so if your looking to buy this movie, buy the cheapest one!
The film itself looks clean with vibrant colors and clear sound. This is such a fun movie for fans of the series because it has so many Bat-thingys! The word 'camp' should be defined by this film with the entire cast whooping it up to make this a fantastic and entertaining cartoon like movie. The action never stops from the opening with Batman fighting a shark while hanging from a ladder attached to the Bat-copter to the Bat-boat VS Penguin submarine battle finale!
The DVD transfer is excellent and there are many cool extras to keep Bat-fans busy for a while. Both releases have the same extras and quality transfer. Till the next Batman review...... same Bat time.....same Bat channel!
The Original Riddler!!! Why this movie is worth buying!!!!! September 26, 2008 If you can't wait for the next film after Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, get this 1960's classic; especially if you can't wait to see the Riddler and are tired of the Jim Carrey version.
Whether you prefer Christian Bale or Michael Keaton, Adam West is easily arguable as the second best (if not the first) Batman/Bruce Wayne.
Not only does this movie have the Riddler (Frank Gorshin), it also includes a mousestached-Joker (Cesar Romero), a Grumpy Old Men-Penguin (Burgess Meredith), a really hot brunette-Catwoman (Lee Meriwether), and the most cliched-Robin (Burt Ward).
The Batcopter, Batboat, and Batmobile are all here too, with written-out word punches, kicks, and splashes.
The only thing missing from this movie is even more baddies. Two-Face, Mr. Freeze, and Poison Ivy should be in here as well to make it more campy.Clawed - The Legend of Sasquatch
Great Movie September 22, 2008 My grandson loves this movie. When I watch it with him, you can certainly see the difference in todays shows and back in the 60's and 70's. Then we wonder why so many kids have attitudes? I much prefer to let children watch some of the old reruns and the Nogin learning channel as opposed to the new released violent movies or even cartoons.
Great Oldie! September 19, 2008 This is the best movie from the older times. The humor and graphics do together on this film. A must for anyone's collection!
A Perfect Buy! (Blu-Ray Review) September 17, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
To all those who are contemplating getting this on Blu Ray, a word of advice...Go get it NOW! I have to hand it to Fox with this one. Even though I'm a staunch fan of the darker interpretation of Batman (Batman Begins and The Dark Knight in particular) I still believe that this film holds a place in history. I loved this movie as a child, I hated this movie as a teenager. It represented a campy version of my favorite Super Hero and frankly, comparing it to the likes of "The Killing Joke" & "Arkham Asylum" is unacceptable to an avid Batman comic reader. The Turning point was when I picked up a compilation of "Batman in the 60's" from a local book store. It was then when I realized that The Batman TV Series was nothing short of a page by page interpretation of the what the comic books were back then...so in essence, this is as true an adaptation of the characters, it's just from a different era. To me...that commands respect. I loved this movie as child, hated it as a teenager and love it as an adult....What goes around comes around I guess!! The Blu Ray disc is spectacular. There are 3 amazing new documentaries (in addition to those of the 2001 DVD release). The 1st about the series itself and its influences, the 2nd about The Allies and the 3rd about the rogues (don't miss Caeser Romero's mustache). It has the original commentary with Adam & Burt, and a new commentary track with the director. It also includes an audio track with an isolated background score. Its a treat for all those who missed buying the "limited to 3000 copies" Soundtrack by Nelson Riddle. The 2 coolest features on this disc have to be... 1. The Interactive Batmobile Tour: You can check out the intricacies of the famous car from every angle with detailed description of each gadget as you go along. If you a fan of the car, there is nothing better than this....and the tour is in Full HD. 2. The Audio of the feature itself is in DTS-HD. Now I haven't upgraded my amp yet, still using an amp with Standard Dolby Digital-Ex and DTS-Es. Never the less, the audio of the film kicks a**. I was blown away, and for once the studio has emphasized on remastering the sound effects and not just the background score. When you hear "the turbines to speed", well...you'll understand why i'm saying this. Needless to say the picture in HD is nothing short of perfect too!
All in all, A PERFECT BUY!!
