Product Description A young writer sacrifices his life in the present to find happiness with a beautiful woman in the past. No Track Information Available Media Type: DVD Artist: REEVE/SEYMOUR Title: SOMEWHERE IN TIME Street Release Date: 01/07/2003 Domestic Genre: DRAMA
Amazon.com It's silly, it's superficial, it's so desperately earnest about its tale of time-spanning love that you almost wish for a cheap flatulence gag just to break the solemn mood. But there's something so unabashedly gushy and entertaining about Somewhere in Time that you can't begrudge its enduring popularity. The film has become a staple of romantic-movie lovers since its release in 1980, and endless showings on cable TV have turned it into a dubious classic of sorts--a three-hanky weeper that anyone can enjoy as a guilty pleasure or a beloved favorite, with no apologies necessary. In his first film after the star-making success of Superman, Christopher Reeve stars as a contemporary playwright who visits a posh hotel and sees the portrait of an actress (Jane Seymour) who had performed there in 1912. He becomes obsessed with this beautiful woman and learns all he can about her, and then discovers a method of hypnotically transporting himself backward in time to meet her. "Is it ... you?" she says upon seeing the lovestruck playwright, and it's clearly a mutual attraction. But even the slightest reminder of the playwright's modern time can jar him from his seemingly real existence in the past, so his wonderful love affair is constantly just a step from being stolen away. Based on Richard Matheson's novel Bid Time Return, this flaky film may strain one's tolerance for plot holes and corny romance, but it's hard to deny its lasting appeal--and let's face it, guys, it'll make wives and girlfriends swoon if they're in a tearjerker mood. --Jeff Shannon

Excellent concept - poor acting August 6, 2008 I love the thought behind this movie. Don't get caught up in the overanalysis of whether it could actually happen. Sit back and enjoy the movie as entertainment. Just too bad Christopher Reeves was cast as the lead. He couldn't act his way out of a paper bag. A more accomplished actor and this would be a 5 star movie.
Beautiful period piece, but dreadful in every other way August 4, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I am a big fan of Jane's work in Dr. Quinn, and I finally saw SIT on Netflix instant viewing. Although the historical atmosphere is beautifully evoked, this was a perfectly terrible film on every other level. The story is simplistic but I could overlook all that if it at least hung together. But the many unanswered questions (like the watch, what did it symbolize; was the Richard who registered in 1912 the same one in 1978 or was it a name coincidence) ruin even this oversimplified story. Jane was lovely too look at but her dialogue was very stilted. A big dissapointment after all the hype I have read on the blogosphere. I recommend Dr. Quinn for much more convincing on-screen romance.
Somewhere Else In Time August 4, 2008 A fantastic film with good storyline and very good acting. This film as been a firm favourite with my wife and I since we first saw it when it first came out. Good settings, costumes and highly recomended.
If Stephen King Did Romance July 17, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
If Stephen King, the master of horror and suspense, would ever delve into the world of romance, I suspect that this would be the kind of film he would make.
By combining a Titanic-like romance with a time-travel angle usually reserved for science fiction, this film is unique right from the start. Instead of boring viewers with time-travel technobabble explanations, though, "Somewhere In Time" uses it only as a plot device, not the MAIN event. Essentially, the core of the movie has very little to do with time-travel...time-travel is only the vehicle through which the story can come forward.
I will not reveal any plot details, so as not to spoil your experience with this film, but the plot is very engaging. It will have romantics reaching for the tissue box and less-romantic viewers marveling at the subtle plot nuances.
The acting in this film is also terrific. Christopher Reeve is spot-on as a "normal guy" (much like his Clark Kent of "Superman" fame) who does his best under abnormal circumstances, while Jane Seymour is the epitome of classical beauty.
Overall, this is a film that everyone can enjoy. Women will be wooed by the romance and the handsomeness of Reeve, while men can relate to Reeve's "everyman" character and be fascinated by the time-travel angle. This is a perfect date movie that will leave everyone happy!
TIME July 14, 2008 This is one of the great motion pictures - a classic. It should be in everyone's collection. Romanitc science-fiction. Hard todo well but this is done very well. Besides it has Christopher Reeves`, a genuine hero and Jane Seymour a genuine and beautiful actress
