Amazon.com Once you settle into the realization that this 1986 John Carpenter (Halloween) film is not going to be one of the director's more masterful works, Big Trouble in Little China just becomes a full-tilt comic blast. Kurt Russell is hilarious as a drawling, would-be John Wayne hero who steps into the middle of a supernatural war in the heart of Chinatown. While kung fu warriors and otherworldly spirits battle over the fate of two women (Kim Cattrall and Suzee Pai), Russell's swaggering idiot manages to knock himself out or underestimate the forces he's dealing with. The whole thing is dopey, but it's supposed to be dopey and Russell's game performance brings an ironic edge. Carpenter directs some nifty spook effects (the sudden arrival of three martial arts demigods from out of nowhere is worth applause), and he also wrote the music. --Tom Keogh
Description Directed by thrill master John Carpenter, this edge-of-your seat adventure stars Kurt Russell as Jack Burton, a tough-talking, wisecracking truck driver whose hum-drum life on the road takes a sudden supernatural tailspin when his best friend's fiancee is kidnapped. Speeding to the rescue, Jack finds himself deep beneath San Francisco's Chinatown, in a murky, creature-filled world ruled by Lo Pan, a 2000-year-old magician who mercilessly presides over an empire of spirits. Dodging demons and facing baffling terrors, Jack battles his way through Lo Pan's dark domain in a full-throttle, action-riddled ride to rescue the girl. Co-starring Kim Cattrall, this effects-filled sci-fi spectacle speeds to an incredible, twist-taking finish.

Blu Ray not-so-HD February 19, 2010 William Willis (Las Vegas, NV) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is one of my favorite flicks. Sadly, I'm coming to a conclusion that most blu ray disk titles don't have a transfer that is any better than the DVD. This looks pretty much exact to the special edition DVD release. Based on my experiences with other Blu Ray titles, this is actually better than normal. Movies like Stargate and Total Recall blu ray disks, in my opinion, look WORSE than the DVD copy.
LOL February 12, 2010 Reviewer1 (Chicago) I'm ashamed that I love this movie. It's stupid but in a good way.
Nice transfer to BD January 29, 2010 Bancolombia Clasica (colombia , south america) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
WHEN I WAS YOUNGER I SAW THIS 80`S MOVIE AND REMEMBER THAT WAS GREAT, NOW JUST TO COLLECTION EFFECT I GOT IT IN BD, AND LOOK MUCH BETTER, BUT I HAVE TO TELL YOU SOMETHING, AS A MATTER OF FACT IS A LITTLE "CAMPY".-GREAT FOR KIDS OLDER 8.
Big Trouble in Little China January 21, 2010 Arnita D. Brown (USA) When trucker Jack Burton agreed to take his friend Wang Chi to pick up his fiancee at the airport, he never expected to get involved in a supernatural battle between good and evil. Wang's fiancee has emerald green eyes, which make her a perfect target for an immortal sorcerer named Lo Pan and his three invincible cronies. Lo Pan must marry a girl with green eyes so he can regain his physical form. Now, Jack must save Wang's fiancee from Lo Pan and his henchmen, and win back his stolen truck. But how can he defeat an enemy who has no body. Big Trouble in Little China is a movie that survived thanks to the home video market and for that we can only be grateful. While its looks may have aged, it's sense of humour and style is as fresh today as the day it first rolled out in cinemas. In short, it's pure entertainment magic.
