Product Description When a meteorite from outer space hits a young woman and turns her into a giant monster she is taken to a secret government compound where she meets a ragtag group of monsters also rounded up over the years. Amazon.com Monsters don't exist, right? If they did, they'd be locked up in some secret government location so the general population wouldn't know of their existence. But what if monsters do exist... and they aren't evil, or even particularly scary? What if they're funny... and smart... and what if they might just be the key to man's survival? When a meteorite crashes in California on Susan Murphy's (Reese Witherspoon) wedding day, Susan is struck by a dose of otherworldly quantonium, her bridal glow becomes decidedly green, and she suddenly swells to a gargantuan 49 feet-11 inches tall. The Feds swoop in and whisk her away from husband-to-be Derek (Paul Rudd) to a government concealment agency where they dub her Ginormica and leave her to bemoan her losses and spend the rest of her days with strange creatures like B.O.B., the brainless blob (Seth Rogen), mad professor Dr. Cockroach (Hugh Laurie), the half-fish and half-ape Missing Link (Will Arnett), and the overly huge and strangely silent grub Insectosaurus. Next, Gallaxhar (Rainn Wilson), ruler of an alien civilization, sends a huge robot to attack Modesto, Calif., to recover the quantonium released by the fallen meteorite. Under the ineffective leadership of President Hathaway (Stephen Colbert), the government embraces General W. R. Monger's (Kiefer Sutherland) suggestion to pit the imprisoned monsters against the robot in exchange for their freedom. The monsters are no match for the robot until Susan begins to really believe in her own abilities and embrace the power of her friendship with the other monsters. B.O.B is absolutely hilarious with his consistent propensity for misunderstanding, indiscriminate digestion of anything and everything in his path, and witless adoration of his fellow monsters. The crazy exploits of Dr. Cockroach inspire lots of laughter, Insectosaurus proves his worth in the end, and Ginormica serves as the glue that holds the whole film together. The InTru 3-D format is highly effective and if you like animation; visual, verbal, and action comedy; references to past science-fiction films; and lovable monsters; you'll enjoy Monsters vs. Aliens. i liked it.i just wish they would have explored the characters' origins more March 3, 2010 falcon (canada) this movie doesn't quite live up to the hype for me.that not to so it
was a bad movie,because it wasn't.it was entertaining,fairly fast
paced.it was over before i knew it.maybe that was the big
problem.nothing much really happened in the less than 90 minutes
running time.the characters were interesting.the problem is,they were
never explored beyond the quick superficial minute or two(if that)
explanation of how they came to be.basically, the movie is all
potatoes,no meat.it certainly isn't funny.if it is,i must have missed
the memo about the funny parts.the concept is good, they just didn't do
enough with it.despite it's problems,(and oddly)i did find it
entertaining enough to give it a 3/5
hillarious March 2, 2010 David A. Smith (Webberville, Mi, USA) i didn't think i'd like this movie. i rented it wathed it loved it. as soon as i saw it for sale at the video store i bought it. this movie i energetic and fun. this movie is for everyone. my favorite character is bob. Whats yours?
Sure caught the grandkids attention!! February 24, 2010 basketmkr (Clinton, IA USA) I try to have videos at my place for my grandchildren when they visit. Bought this one on a whim - did I ever hit the jackpot!! The grandkids would watch this back-to-back all day long if I let them. Very cute, not scary for little ones, and there is some adult humor but the little kids really don't catch it. Just a very cute, fun movie - I would recommend this one to anyone! I only gave it four stars because it's not quite up to the likes of Shrek or Nemo or Ice Age - but it's still very, very good!!
Monsters VS. Aliens February 12, 2010 J. Platt (Salmon, ID) This movie was laugh out loud funny. My boys loved it. When a movie can keep boys ages 4-13 riveted for the whole movie, it's what we call a "buyer." We bought and have watched many many times. I highly recommend it to anyone.
Fresno, Beverly Hills Cop & Close Encounters all in 1 February 6, 2010 mskrisclark (home) Yes, people Fresno CA is just loads of fun....NOT It is Channel 24 NOT 23 and channel 24 is our NBC station. Loved the films comments getting the real meaning of this city in it.
An enjoyable film. Did not care for anyone in the voice cast.
But, it is fun and you do not have to be a kid to enjoy it.
NOT up to the standard of classic Disney or Disney/Pixar films. Compare the film to the "Ice Age" films on humor, style, etc.
Let's see, they used "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" and "Beverly Hills Cop" music in the film.
The President character going after a funny Bush....meaning NOT TOO BRIGHT.
Military said they were holding some of the monsters for 50 years.....this character did NOT look that old.
Just, as said above, an enjoyable film.
Normal extras on it.
