Product Description The third Highlander movie takes place at 1994, which means it's a prequel of the second film. After the death of his beloved wife Heather some centuries ago, Connor MacLeod left the highlands of Scotland and wandered around the world. Finally, he got to Japan, where he met the famous sorcerer Nakano, who was an Immortal too. Soon, they became friends, and Nakano taught Conor some tricks. But one day, an old enemy, Kane, came to Japan willing to find Nakano's cave and kill him. Although he succeeded, after cutting Nakano's head the mountain collapsed and Kane was trapped. Now, centuries after, an excavation reveals Nakano's cave...

And the series continues it's downward spiral ... October 28, 2009 Joe (Anywhere, IOWA) And the series continues it's downward spiral ...
Why even bother putting the time and energy to putting this onto celluloid?
"I have a great idea. I would like to make it into a classic movie and then kill the theme be redoing it to death in horrible sequels!"
"What is the Idea Called?"
"Highlander."
"Sounds great, let's make a great movie and a horrible TV show that is nothing like the movie and film sequels that squash the life out of your 'immortal' tale?"
"Okay. Where do I sell my soul?"
THE END
a very interesting edge case ... and some more insight November 28, 2008 Bandit Gangwere (new mexico) The basic premise of the movie is simple: three immortals get killed (they are dead), but their heads are intact, because they get trapped in ice. Please note this is consistent with the basic canon of the immortals: if you shoot one of them, they are dead for a while.
(Another edge case to explore: what happens when you chop off the head when the person is dead?)
I must admit I never liked the "prize" of the first movie: you are immortal until you are the only one, then you can die. It seems like a real waste.
Also, left unanswered by the first movie is the question of exactly what do you get as a part of the quickening? One would assume powers, skills, and knowledge. For example, immortal A kills immortal B. B has a fortune. A should now have access to it.
This movie answers some of these questions. The bad guy gets the powers of the sorcerer - he can shape-shift. These powers make it harder for MacLeod to find and battle Kane. However, MacLeod is able to draw on powers that he has gained from other quickenings.
In short, the movie is consistent, and follows from a case where MacLeod is the last immortal, then three more come to life. I thought this was very clever and well done.
I also liked the bad guys. Kane is ruthless. His first act when revived is to kill one of the other bad guys. How bad can you get? I guess he needed a quickening to get started in the morning :^)
In some ways the plot is predictable. Kane kidnaps someone close to MacLeod to force him into a fight. Was I surprised? No. Does it hurt the movie? No. I do wish the director had come up with a better reason for MacLeod to go after Kane, because MacLeod would have to do battle with a newly revived immortal - after all (voice effect) "There can be only One!".
I recommend this movie. Highlander fans should find it consistent with the other movies (well .. leaving H2 aside), and an interesting twist on the weird conditions of being immortal.
(Full disclosure: I was an unpaid extra on H2, and a good friend built many of the models. But - H2 was in left field, to be kind.)
Remember, this is the same as Highlander:the final demension July 4, 2006 Wiseguy 945 (Omaha, NE) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
This is the Canadian/european release name of Highlander: The final demension. I like this movie because I am a highlander fan, but it is essentially the first story told over again, just different characters and different places. This movie was more of a sequel to the original than the Highlander II movie was, although the first one should have never had a sequel. So if you feel the need as a collector to get this version, at least it is cheap.
Highlander III, come on it can't be! June 22, 2006 Chad Taylor (El Cajon, CA United States) 5 out of 8 found this review helpful
This was the Highlander movie sequel with Mario Van Peebles that just totally dismissed the second film as if it had never been made. More's the pity they didn't stop right there and NOT make this movie. Anyway here we go again, after his first wife's death Conan wanders the world ending up in Japan where he learns tricks from his Japanese sorceror friend. Then the murderous Cain kills the sorceror only to be trapped (with two other evil immortals) under the collapsing ice and snow -- suspended in ice until.... Now here's the problem we assume (just like before) in the 3rd film that Conan (Lambert), has killed every other immortal and has won the prize and is now finally mortal. But Cain (the evil Immortal played by Mario) along with the two other evil Immortals ARE STILL FROZEN IN THE ICE!
So how could Conan have become mortal (the prize remember) by killing THE LAST OF HIS KIND with these three Immortal Popcycles still technically in existence? I mean just because they're frozen, in suspended animation, does that mean they don't count in the grand scheme of things in the Universe? There are some nice fight sequences while Mario and Lambert are hanging from cables, but it's the "Dallas" TV series all over again when a whole season with a dead Bobby disappears because somebody wakes up! Don't bother with this film. So just like the producers did pretending "The Quickening" didn't exist, do yourself a favor and do the same thing with this one. There can be only one!
