Kodak Zi8 - Flimsy usb, impossible firmware update November 20, 2009 Julie Reynolds (Peoria IL) I was disappointed in the Zi8. The interface was terrific but the usb was so flimsy, it was a complete pain. I could not get the images to show on either of 2 computers and was unable to manage the firmware update. I returned it. Amazon was terrific.
Kodak Zi8 HD camera reveiw November 20, 2009 laminate21 (Brooklyn, OH) I have had the Kodak Zi8 for almost 2 months now, and am very happy with it. It replaced an older JVC mini dv camcorder. The picture quality is very good. The widescreen aspect ratio, compared to the old format is awsome. I can't get over how crisp and clear the videos are on my HD tv. The low light videos of my daughters birthday are great. Since it slips into my shirt pocket, i take it everywhere, and now have lots of videos that I would never have taken with the older, larger camcorder. No sound problem, as the sound works great. My advise is buy it, you wont' regret it for the money. A more expensive camcorder will not get you a better picture, just a better zoom lens. This lens is fine for what it's intended for.
don't even bother November 20, 2009 Enrique G. Molina (Miami, Florida United States) i was looking for a video camera and I was between the Flip HD and the Kodak zi8. I decided to go for the zi8.
I got it yesterday and in summary: it is a piece of junk. It is my first return trough Amazon after years of purchasing all kinds of stuff online.
The camera freezes all the time, the power button doesn't work 90% of the time, so the only way to turn this camera was by removing the battery. I could not download videos into my PC. I contacted Kodak customer service, i installed the software upgrades and the camera still freezed all the time. I even bought a new Kodak SD memory card thinking this could have been the problem, and nothing got solved. Kodak customer service suggested that I got the camera exchanged. And yes, I am exchanging it for a Flip or something else!
Kodak Zi8 don't buy November 19, 2009 William W. Farley Jr. (Chapel Hill, NC) I received mine as a gift. What a joke. While the camera is easy to use, with only the zoom being poorly designed, the software to control the camera is a joke. It would not upload correctly into the computer for editing or even reviewing the image. Compared to a flip with its non sensical approach to the upload this software hardware combination should have never gone out the door at Kodak.
The support at Kodak waa non existent but they do have my email three times and I think they got the serial numbe 4 times. But alas no support. This goes back today.
