simple, straight forward and it works. November 19, 2009 J. B. Wannemacher 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
not a whole lot of bells and whistles which is exactly what i was looking for, the case with removable rubber ends is Durable and hardy.
its size is compact, you get the hard drive inside and a case which covers it and thats just about all there is to the thing.
you plug it in and boom your up and ready to go. if your not looking for any bloat ware thats going to ask you to install or back up or update every time you plug in your hard drive, i would heartily suggest this device.
Flawless, Light, Strong November 19, 2009 Otterling (New Orleans) I'm not terribly tech-savvy, but this product has been almost frighteningly reliable and easy to use. I plugged it in, partitioned it (which caused me great anxiety but went without a hitch), mapped it to my home network, and now drag and drop files seamlessly between PC and my MacBook. It's got enormous storage space, is quiet, light, unobtrusive, and has a tiny footprint. Can't say enough good about this: in a year of daily use it's caused me no trouble at all.
Western Digital 1TB exernal hard drive November 18, 2009 Stephen R. Schinker (Plymouth, MN USA) Western Digital Elements 1 TB USB 2.0 Desktop External Hard Drive WDE1UBK10000N (Black). It amazes me that a one terabyte external hard drive is available for under $100. This is a great hard drive. As others have recommended, you should reformat from FAT32 to NTSF. It takes over eight hours, something you can start before you go to bed, and it's done in the morning.
I copied over 360GB of data, in FAT32, then reformatted and copied again. There is a significant difference in speed, and I had some size issues in FAT32 that were not an issue in NTSF.
This hard drive works fine with Windows 7, the hard drive was recognized immediately.
This is a wonderful back up device
Assuming it doesn't crash, a great all around buy. November 18, 2009 Adam G. Thomas (Chicago, IL USA) It's impossible to tell whether it's going to make me regret my words, but so far this external has been a dream. I've been saving data to it continuously for three days and it's not all that hot. It's heavy, very solid. Plug and play with Win7.
1 TB WD HD November 18, 2009 Kioshi Imako (Iowa) I have used this HD for about a year now and have not run into any issues. I even dropped it once and it still works fine. I have not come into any file size limit i have transferred a 10g file to the HD without a problem.
Overall every external drive I owned has been WD and I recommend it to anyone looking for external storage. As far as backing up goes I recommend using a slotable HD for some of the newer computers for speed.
