Sorry I Put It Off For Years! November 20, 2009 Douglas W. Freeman (Lebanon, MO) I like gadgets, but I don't jump early for new technology - I wait till the technology matures and prices come down. I never saw the need to spend $100's to do what a $10 atlas could do. Then I took a trip with a friend who had a Nuvi 205. I immediately had to have a gps! I love this thing and should have gotten one years ago! I don't have to fish for my reading glasses, dig out the atlas, and find the map is not detailed enough to see what I wanted. Navigation is so much easier now! I went with Garmin because of market share, features, and price. The widescreen is definitely the way to go, as is the calling out of street names for the next turn. The points of interest is great - I can look up restaurants, gas stations, etc in unfamilier places. I can take that backroad to do some recon and know how to get back to civilization.
I tried a vent mount which positioned the Nuvi below the top of the dash. It worked for a week or so, then started losing the sat signal. It is now mounted on the dash with the provided stick on plastic piece and hasn't lost the signal since. I have a Ram Mount for both motorcycles which work great, and will be installing direct wire power supplies in my vehicles. GPS has fully matured, and anyone who leaves the 5 mile radius where they grew up should have one!
Great GPS Unit with Bluetooth November 19, 2009 Michael Yannette 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I am very satisfied with the Garmin nuvi 265WT. The Bluetooth phone function works flawlessly with my cell phone and reproduces my phone's full contact list on the screen which makes for easy calls. Once the phone number is selected, the call is completely hands free and the speaker and microphone work very well. GPS Directions to destinations are accurate and the screen shows your speed and the road's posted speed limit, estimated time of arrival, and all street names as you approach them. The selection of American English voices is limited, I wish there were more. I've selected a female voice, but it is somewhat nasal. This is a great unit and a good value for the price (I paid $179). I took advantage of the one time free download of updated software and an updated map. The process was somewhat complex and took several steps of over an hour each (I have Roadrunner high speed access). The files are very large (over 2 gigabytes) and are not automatically deleted after the map updating process is complete. I had to find them on my hard drive and delete the map data files and update program manually to recapture the hard drive space. Garmin should add this step to the final cleanup after the updating process. Other than the disk space issue, this product fully lives up to its advertising. I highly recommend the Garmin nuvi 265T.
Great GPS, Compatible with my Nokia 2705 Shade November 18, 2009 John FS (Marlboro, MA USA) This GPS is great. It paired with my Nokia 2705 Shade even though it was not one of the listed compatible phones. Gives me handsfree operation in my car, with onscreen menus for my phonebook, "Call Home" button, voice dialing and more. Couldn't ask for more from a great GPS unit.
Expected better November 18, 2009 T. Morgan This device was definitely a good value for the price. It does alright on some directions. But when searching for nearby stores or restaurants-- I find the software outdated. I tried to go to the Garmin site for my one free software update. It took 24 hours to download-- and I don't have a slow computer. And after all that time-- the information in this device is still over 8 years old. I can't find the Target or Kohl's down the street. The shopping center has been there for over 5 years. When out of town, I looked for a restaurant that moved within the past 2 years-- it took us to the old location. So I am not thrilled with the maps in my device. Any suggestions?
Highly Recomend November 17, 2009 George Mitchell (Glen Burnie, Md. USA) I purchased this GPS unit as a replacement for an old out-dated unit. The unit was an excellent choice that far exceeds my exceptions. I highly recommend the unit to anyone seeking a reliable widescreen auto navigation unit.
