Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Wireless-G is the upcoming 54Mbps wireless networking standard that's almost five times faster than the widely deployed Wireless-B (802.11b) products found in homes, businesses, and public wireless hotspots around the country - but since they share the same 2.4GHz radio band, Wireless-G devices can also interoperate with existing 11Mbps Wireless-B equipment.Since both standards are built in, you can protect your investment in existing 802.11b infrastructure, and migrate to the new screaming fast Wireless-G standard as your needs grow. The Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router is really three devices in one box. First, there's the Wireless Access Point, which lets you connect Wireless-G or Wireless-B devices to the network. There's also a built-in 4-port full-duplex 10/100 Switch to connect your wired-Ethernet devices. Connect four PCs directly, or daisy-chain out to more hubs and switches to create as big a network as you need. Finally, the Router function ties it all together and lets your whole network share a high-speed cable or DSL Internet connection. To protect your data and privacy, the Wireless-G Broadband Router can encrypt all wireless transmissions. The Router can serve as a DHCP Server, has NAT technology to protect against Internet intruders, supports VPN pass-through, and can be configured to filter internal users' access to the Internet. Configuration is a snap with the web browser-based configuration utility. With the Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router at the center of your home or office network, you can share a high-speed Internet connection, files, printers, and multi-player games with the flexibility, speed, and security you need!

5 out of 5 stars WRT54GL is an excellent product   November 21, 2009
Systems Research Scientist (Silicon Valley, CA)
Fulfillment of this Cisco product from Amazon was fast and hassle free, the unit was easy to configure, the admin GUI is logical and clear, and the option to reprogram the firmware with open source Linux opens up endless possibilities if I ever have the time to really play with this unit. I would highly recommend it for any serious IT hobbyist looking for a replacement wireless router. Also, the price point came in $10 lower than my local computer/electronics store, even after shipping was included.

4 out of 5 stars Whats not to like   November 21, 2009
W. C. Siebentritt (Las Vegas)
Setup is easy and runs the computer on the other side of the house. Can't ask for more than that for this price.

4 out of 5 stars Easy installation on PC, Poor on MAC   November 17, 2009
T. QUADT (USA)
I am running the router with a PC and a MAC at home.
The installation CD does not provide MAC software and the custiomer service (website, chat, phone) is poor. Since my PC didn't have a CD drive, I ended up buying an external one.
Installation on a PC is very easy though and from the start it worked flawless in WPA2 mode on both the PC and the MAC.
Reception and Reliability are great.
--> Buy this product if you have a PC or if you feel comfortable installing it manually on a MAC (I had no idea how to do that).

4 out of 5 stars Works well so far   November 17, 2009
Jonathan Schuster (Chicago, IL)
I flashed the router's firmware with DD-WRT immediately after getting it, and it's working well so far. I haven't had any problems with it, and the WiFi/WPA encryption works with all the wireless devices in my home (laptop, Wii, and iPhone), which I couldn't say about the old router built into my modem.

The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is that I haven't had a chance to really give it a run for its money, but I'm confident it's going to serve me well.

5 out of 5 stars Great for Telecommuting!   November 16, 2009
A. Manna (North Carolina)
I was having problems with telecommuting through my previous router - VPN was constantly disconnecting and occasionally not working at all for days at a time. Since I've installed this router I've had absolutely no problems and the inefficiencies I just accepted are a thing of the past!
