The best remote ever November 22, 2009 M. Jourdan (Chicago, IL) We've had this remote controlling our downstairs entertainment system for over a year now and its so easy that my wife had it figured out in one day. Before that day she didn't touch the TV because she couldn't figure out how to turn things on. So recently we were at Costco and from a distance I could see the display of these remotes and above them a price of $97! When we bought the first one we paid almost $200, to see it that cheap I just had to get another to spruce up the upstairs controller mess. We now have 2 remotes total in our house, 1 controlling the Entertainment system downstairs and 1 controlling the Entertainment system upstairs. I cannot say it enough, THANK YOU LOGITECH! If you're reading this review and debating if you should purchase the remote, stop thinking about it and buy it now.
Works well with:
Comcast's HD-DVR box
Comcast's Digital Transmitter Converter Box
Vizio LCD TVs
Samsung Pebel DVD player
XBOX 360
JVC Reciever
Honewell Fans
I gotta give this one 5 stars! November 21, 2009 Scott Martin (Florida) I don't hand out 5 stars often, coming off of my xbox 360 Harmony Remote which I was happy with, but not overly impressed I really liked the improvements in the 880. It has a built in battery with great life, nice cradle recharger and programs the same as the rest of the Harmony line. The button presses are quiet, the sensor for picking up the remote and turning on the backlight works flawlessly and the remote is pretty comfortable on the hand although it can be a bit of a stretch to reach the top buttons as mentioned by others.
All in all I recommend this remote to anyone with multiple electronic items or for that matter anyone with a TV and DVD player. Once you use a Harmony remote for a while its torture to use one of your regular remotes!!!
OK, but not as ergonomical as the Tivo remote November 20, 2009 Patrick Groeneveld (San Jose, CA USA) The remote works as advertised. Programming my 9 devices was easy.
It took me an hour to get the details right. You can program arbitrary command
sequences. My entire AV stack lights up in the right mode at the tough of a
single button.
Logitech copied the shape of the Harmony from the Tivo remove. That is good
because the peanut shape is the one of the best designs in my view.
The Harmony adds a color screen, and at first sight it looks stylish and pretty.
Upon closer investigation, the plastic of the Harmony is mediocre quality. Adding to
the cheap feel is that remote is very light. The color screen is poor quality, making
text of the soft buttons hard to read, especially when using a background.
The screen layout is quite ugly and primitive.
Most buttons are small and are hard to find without looking at the remote. The tactile feel of the
buttons is poor and they do not seem durable.
Even though the Harmony looks like a Tivo remote, it is a rather awkward controller for Tivo DVRs.
Frequently used buttons disappear in a sea of 24 grey buttons at the bottom. In the default setting,
there is not even a 'tivo' button assigned.
Most remotes run forever on 2 AA batteries. The harmony needs to be put on a
changing cradle to keep the rechargeable battery alive. Finding a spot for the cradle and hiding
the wire could be challenge.
Overall, this is one of the best universal remotes for anyone with a complex AV stack.
The Harmony is overpriced given the cheap execution of the hardware.
Very happy with this remote. November 19, 2009 T. Guerrero (Arlington, Texas United States) I have been very happy with this remote. I have had one for over a year now, without any problems other than the charging/cradle problem a lot of people comment on, but I found a solution for that. The problem seems to be oxidation on the contacts. Whenever it doesn't start charging when I first set it in the cradle and it has to be fidgeted around to start, I rub both the contacts on the cradle and the remote with a piece of emory cloth and it takes care of the problem for a few more weeks. A little more effort than should be neccessary, but not that big a deal to me.
Love it (and so does my wife)! November 17, 2009 Charles C. Deano Jr. (Niceville, FL) Linda was afraid to watch TV by herself, even though I had whittled the number of remotes required from three (TV, DVR, AV Amp) to two (DVR and a first gen "Universal"). This thing is neater than canned beer! It took me a while to figure out how to correctly program it, but now even a caveman (or Linda) can watch TV without my assistance.
