Product Description Form and functionality collide with style in the NexStar 3 External Hard Drive Enclosure from Vantec. With its mirror finish, sleek curves and bold colors, the Vantec NexStar 3 stands out from the crowd. The sturdy drive cage protects your hard drive while the aluminum case effectively draws away the heat, protecting your drive from overheating. The NexStar 3 also utilizes USB 2.0, offering speeds up to 480Mbps, 40 times the speed of USB 1.1! But if you are using USB 1.1, the NexStar 3 is still an ideal way to store and transfer large amounts of data. Available in 4 vivid colors, the NexStar 3 lets you store your personal data in an enclosure that matches your style!

Excellant Hard Drive Enclosure October 29, 2008 An excellant choice for anyone who needs a hard drive enclosure. It,s very easy to install, works flawlessly, and is quite stylish. I particular liked the included carrying bag that protects the exceptional finish on the unit while not in use. I highly recommend this product.
So far, a real winner ... August 20, 2008 I usually wipe hard drives on old computers and then donate them. However, I had an old laptop that was pretty worthless except for the 80GB Western Digital hard drive.
Based on other reviews, I took a chance on this enclosure. Though this is the first time I've actually pulled a hard drive for re-use, this enclosure made the process a snap.
I just did a complete backup of my desktop (I highly recommend Acronis True Image software). I put the great looking hard drive in its case and put it aside for my next backup.
Long term use will, of course, be a good test. However, I'm inclined to think this enclosure will outlast the hard drive and can probably be re-used if necessary.
A real value buy!
NexStar Rocks! May 26, 2008 This has to be one of the nicest enclosures on the market today. I have bought many enclosures in the past but this one by far is the best. The case feels very strong and with a satin finish. I've bought 2 of the NexStar SATA enclosures and 1 of the 3.5 IDE drive enclosures as well. My best friend after checking out the product bought one also because of the quality.
Great Enclosure January 22, 2008 As a previous reviewer stated, I too was looking at one of the cheaper enclosures for my 2.5" HD that was from a laptop that died. I must admit that the NexStar caught my eye due to its appearance, but seeing isn't always believing. Fortunately, it's true for this case. It looks terrific, the manual is easy to understand, a driver CD is included for Win 95/98 installations, installation of the HD into the enclosure was a breeze, and the HD with the case is extremely quiet during operation. All screws installed easily, unlike a previous case I bought some time ago. My only negative with the NexStar is that it should have come with a base like its bigger brother does for 3.5" HDs. I use it horizontally due to the risk of the case tipping over if I had it vertically like in the picture.
Overall, I'm very pleased with this case. You can't go wrong with this purchase.
Great Buy! July 5, 2007 I was initially going to buy one of the cheap <$10 enclosures but when i saw this one I changed my mind and I don't regret it. I haven't used it much yet but so far its great. I ran SiSoft Sandra's disk benchmark on it and I got 19MB per second which was the same as a 60GB 7200rpm drive which has to be great since the notebook hard drive is 20GB 5400rpm. I only have two complaints:1.The circuit board was not initially screwed into the case so when i opened the package it slid right out hit the table...luckily not the floor. So be careful when removing it from the antistatic bag.2. It would have been cool if there was a swivel out foot to balance the enclosure in the upright position like in the picture.I didn't have any problems with the locking screws...they fit perfectly and since I'm not planning on doing alot of drive swaping, the screws are not a problem. The enclosure looks great...even better than in the picture. The vantec logo at the front lights up bright blue for power indication and blinks for activity. The enclosure has a solid feel to it, looks sophisticated, works great and the carrying case seals the deal. Buy it!!
