Product Description AWARD-WINNING ACTOR AND AUTHOR BLAIR UNDERWOOD JOINS FORCES WITH TWO AMAZING AND AWARD-WINNING AUTHORS TANANARIVE DUE AND STEVEN BARNES TO DELIVER THE SECOND INSTALLATION IN THE STUNNING AND PROVOCATIVE TENNYSON HARDWICK NOVEL IN THE NIGHT OF THE HEAT. Threatened with death after acquittal for murder, football superstar T. D. Jackson asks struggling actor and former gigolo Tennyson Hardwick for protection. Tennyson has a reputation in Hollywood after solving the murder of rapper Afrodite, but politely turns Jackson down: His acting career is taking off with a new series, and he's trying to work out his personal life after a series of wrong turns. But Tennyson's life is upturned when his seedy past catches up to him on the set of his TV series. Then T. D. Jackson is found dead in his home, the victim of an apparent suicide. T.D.'s gorgeous cousin, Melanie, is sure the superstar was murdered, and Jackson's family offers Tennyson an irresistible fee to discover the truth. But prying into T. D. Jackson's death means answering the question that divided a nation and destroyed a film star and a football icon's life and career: Did T. D. Jackson kill his wife? When the investigation takes an unexpected turn toward the governor's mansion and a long-forgotten football game in the segregated South of the 1960s, Tennyson uncovers secrets tearing at the heart of two dynasties and must rely on all of his assets -- his actor's heart, deadly hands, profiler's mind, and every other part of his body -- to keep from dying next.

FABULOUS SEQUEL!!! December 28, 2008 The amazingly hot Tennyson "Ten" Hardwick is back in this second installment starring that gorgeous protagonist by which most of us would love to be investigated. In this edge-of-your seat tale, Ten is called in by an old friend to investigate the untimely death of NFL great T.D. Jackson--ostensibly by his own hand. His family, however, believes otherwise, as T.D. himself was very recently acquitted of the murder of both his ex-wife and her boyfriend....causing of course, a huge rift between two very influential families; that of Jackson--whose own father is a federal judge--and of Chantelle Hankins, his former wife, whose father wields substantial political power and has his sights set on the governor's seat. Preliminary investigation by Ten definitely yields questionable practices by the LAPD, in addition to evidence of the presence of someone else at the scene at the crime...casting further doubt over the police insistence of suicide. But Ten has no idea what he is getting himself into; an undercover brotherhood with loyalties stronger than blood....and a deadly secret decades old that reaches across generations and affects both families. In his quest for the truth, Ten finds himself deep in the swamps of Florida, on roads that years before most certainly would have witnessed "strange fruit...;" there he finds that there are many who would rather see him dead than to dig up old, painful memories.
A riveting tale by three talented individuals who together form a winning combination of literary titillation...both pageturner and screenplay, this is a series that is sure to make its way eventually to the big screen.

Good flow; storyline December 22, 2008 This was a nice continuation of the previous book Casanegra. I enjoyed the writing style - it just appeared to flow. Ten is an intriguing character and I liked the development of his relationship with Chela, his father and I'm hoping to read more about April and his relationship. I didn't give it 5 stars only because some of the book was a tad predictable and it should've been edited better but overall - would recommend it and look forward to more Tennyson series...
ripped off December 22, 2008 I still have not received this order and my inquiries have not been answered. I recommend that you do not deal with these people. I feel that I was ripped off.
Enjoyable Read December 15, 2008 I really enjoyed this book. I liked it better than Casanegra. I can't quite pinpoint why. I just do. I think part of it is attributed to the fight scene in Casanegra with Tennyson in a deserted apartment complex with Biggs and some thugs trying to kill them. Ten would have had to have supernatural powers to pull off such highly unrealistic and physically impossible feats. Now if Ten was a 500 year old African immortal, like Dawit, Terferi, and Mahmoud nem in My Soul to Keep, I could buy into the fight scenes. However, the fight scene with Rueben and Ten, was a marked improvement. It was realistic.
I am waiting to see what happens with Tenn & April. I really want them work out their issues with one another. I hope she reappears in the next installment.
I also want Ten to eventually get settled career wise and financially. He has too many responsibilities to have no steady and reliable income, even though I know that is a part of being an actor. He is responsible for a teenager and his elderly daddy. They depend solely on him to keep things going.
The only thing I did no like about the book was the cover. I enjoyed the Tennyson character not having a face. I liked his back turned and his face hidden. I could conjure up in my mind how he looked. There was mystery. I don't know why actors like to plant their face on everything. The picture of Blair on the back as a collaborator is cool, but with him also on the front cover, it annoyed me. It is an over kill.
I highly recommend this fun read, engaging and substantive "who done it" read. The killer was a surprise. I would have never guessed the true story. I give the book's content a 5 star, the front cover 2 star.
Nicely done!! A very good read December 4, 2008 I really like where this series of books seems to be going. This story had the right combination of suspense, intrique and sex. The combined talents of the three authors is just wonderful. You can sense what each one of them brings to the story. I love that it was an intelligent read and not dumbed down like so many other urban African American writers today are, this book is mature, smart and easy to escape into. I can't wait until we see Ten again!!!
