Quick Baby Knits by Debbie Bliss October 24, 2008 I have many Debbie Bliss knitting books, including patterns for kids. This one is a great addition and her designs are always special (even the easy ones), well thought out and make a great baby gift.
Excellent patterns... but be ready to substitute yarns. March 6, 2008 The patterns are really very nice, I plan to knit almost all of them (quite rare for me and a knitting book). Of the two that I have already knitted the instructions were very clear and easy to follow for an beginner-intermediate knitter.
The patterns have a range of sizes 0-3yrs rather than the common 0-12mths. What is best is that there are knits in different yarns (cottons, wool etc) and differnt needle sizes from bulky through to fine knits. Unfortunately alot of the yarns specified are no longer available so substituitions will be necessary.
Overall I am very pleased and this is one of my favourite knitting books.
Quick/Easy depends on the experience of the knitter! August 19, 2007 This was one of my first Debbie Bliss books and I did the sweater on the cover in a magenta/cranberry color for my daughter. It didn't seem quick or easy, but well worth the effort. I'm probably going to do it again with Debbie Bliss yarn next time though. The super chunky sweater for my son turned out cute too! There are many patterns in this book that I wished I had time to do, but alas the day is not long enough. I'm am very glad to have this in my library for when I do make the time!
Classy, stylish baby clothes October 18, 2006 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I found this collection of patterns very refreshing. After finding such a wealth of "quick knitting" patterns that call for large needles and chunky acrylic yarn (yielding, in my opinion, ugly and cheap-looking baby clothes), it's nice to see patterns for beautiful, classy, stylish baby clothes created at a fine gauge suitable to a small body. I also love the color choices shown in the photographs, as well as the use of natural fiber yarns like wool and cotton. Of course, the knitter can use whatever color and fiber he/she chooses, but I appreciate the inspiration to knit for babies using colors other than pastels and gaudy brights and fibers other than acrylic. I'm eagerly awaiting the next Bliss book!
great simple designs, but not easy May 1, 2006 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
The other reviews are correct in my opinion: not necessarily for beginners, but nice designs. I have knitted for many years and these sweaters are not difficult, but they don't exactly whip up the way other patterns do. I love a couple of the designs in this book very much. I have probably knitted 5 of the patterns and some of them several times. I seem to always come back to this book, even though I agree that the explanations are a bit confusing sometimes. I recently read the intro to the book and found it a bit condescending the way she made it sound like you were a beginner if you wanted to knit from this book.
