Very good book. March 8, 2007 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I was at a point in my life where I was confused and didn't know what exactly I wanted, well I bought this book read it everyday and learned allot about what it is all about to be a fireman. I was heading up to NYC my home town to sign up, but I stuck with developing video games.
This book has great information and is definitely used in today's tests, anyone interested in becoming a fire fighter should take a look at this book before any others.
Don't use just one book October 19, 2006 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
DO NOT rely solely on this book! It is a good book for your arsenal but it is lacking in some areas. The math and tool sections are lacking in this book however the memorization sections are very good. Some of the diagrams and pictures in the book are too small and difficult to see! Don't get frustrated by some of the answers that don't match up to what is in the text. I have talked to many people who site bad answers in the key. Again buy at least two exam books and do ALL the practice tests. I suggest Norman Hall's in addition to this book.
More akin to what you may see on a test. April 28, 2005 10 out of 11 found this review helpful
I bought this book along with the Norman Hall book and the combo of the 2 worked well I think (I ended up with a job where I wanted). I took some different tests and for the most part if you study and know basic math, have some basic mechanical aptitude, etc., you should do fine. While Norman Hall's book is definitely more advanced in terms of the mechanic's and math, this is generally in line with what I saw on the test's. Not knowing what is going to be on the test though, I believe that the more info you have, the better, so I would buy both. If it moves you on to the next step, it was worth it.
Excellent Study Guide June 27, 2000 32 out of 32 found this review helpful
This is an excellent selection for an aspiring firefighter. The book gives sample tests to test your skills and also will improve your skills in idle areas. My favorite part of the book is the sample test because after taking and grading the test I would know where I stand. And anything I had trouble on I could study up on. It also provides great information on the physical exam and essential guidlines for the content of the physical exam. It will let you train for the specific area's and concentrate on certain criteria. Overall this is an excellent book that will make your chances of becoming a paid firefighter greater.
