Perfect book for SJCP certification December 23, 2008 This book is just what I need for my exam. I am grateful I found it on time.
Kathy and Bert did it again! December 16, 2008 I just passed the SCJP for Java 6 with a 91% and I was already SCJP certified for Java 1.4 (90%). In both cases I used Kathy and Bert's study guide to prepare for the exam and I can only say that they really toughen you up for the actual exam (makes it look kind of easy at the end). At the same time, believe it or not (those who have read other material from Kathy & Bert will agree), they make studying for a certification exam as fun as it can be.
The key for those who want to pass the SCJP 6 exam is study the material and (really, very important) do all exercises. All of them, the ones at the end of each chapter and the simulated exams on the CD that comes with the book. This will help you find the areas where you need more studying (the ad-hoc study guides produced at the end of simulated exams are just great as well).
And finally, I feel that more than passing the exam I actually learned a whole lot during this "journey". I'm ready to apply some useful stuff that I learned from this book at my work. (BTW, I'm very experienced Java developer on the platform 1.4, but with very little exposure to 5 and 6 so far).
Good book for passing SCJP December 11, 2008 This book is very good and very helpful to pass the SCJP exam and also for learning in detail about JAVA with examples.
total coverage for SCJP5 exam July 18, 2008 i have just passed my exam with 97%. This book covers everything that you need to know for SCJP5 Exam. Once you read it you will feel confident but dont be fooled you are not finished just yet. you have to do a lot of mock exams which are available online. (for the mock exams and some help go to www.javaranch.com). The practice questions after each chapter are very important. These questions are very close to the exam questions. Solve them all before you enter the exam. I can not say the same thing about the simulated test included in CD, though you shall still go through once. Once again, this book covers 100% for SCJP5 EXAM.
Comprehensive coverage of the exam July 11, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I just passed the exam with 87% after reading this book. I spent two months reading the book and then two weeks some revision. When reading this book you keep discovering things that you know you should have known long before as a java programmer. The questions in the book tend to be harder than the actual exam, but they are helpful.
I discovered a couple of minor errors from the book. But it's really no big deal.
