Product Description Business Scorecard Manager 2005 (BSM 2005) is an application designed to help companies monitor, analyze, and make decisions about important business information. Through the use of scorecard-centric, interactive dashboards, BSM 2005 enables the integration of refined data from one or more sources into a single point-of-contact for key performance indicators, which are directly aligned to corporate strategies and goals.
The Rational Guide to Microsoft Office Business Scorecard Manager 2005 clearly and comprehensively describes how to apply the power of BSM to your performance management strategy. This book covers all the basics of performance management theory, BSM installation, deployment, and management. Key concepts are discussed in depth, including BSM Builder, Elements, KPIs, Scorecards, Report Views, and more. Advanced topics include collaboration with Windows SharePoint Services, security, scoring, and customization using MDX (Multi-Dimensional eXpressons). The authors have included a book-length case study that illustrates how these concepts work in practice.

Good introduction to BSM June 1, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I've already recommended this to consultants, quite a tricky product to walk you through and does a pretty good job. Combines the technical aspects of BSM with the practical, developers can make use of the additional chapters on using the web service etc. too.
The missing Business Scorecard Manager Manual May 7, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I'm totally new to BSM 2005 and have to admit that I flailed around with the product until I got this book. This book has given me a solid foundation of understanding of the product and answered many of my questions.
Its very well written and edited. They seem to have included all of the important stuff but not added a ton of filler that you have to wade through to get at that good stuff.
I have only one minor complaint. The book was written assuming you're using SharePoint 2003 (which is perfectly reasonable since that is what BSM was designed for). Unfortunately I'm using SharePoint 2007 and while this is suppose to work the book is silent on these issues and Microsoft doesn't offer very good guidance. On the other hand, I emailed one of the author's with a question and got a fast and useful reply.
Bottom line: this is the book that Microsoft should have supplied when they first released the product a couple of years ago.
