Product Description
Eliza Blake, host of the top-rated KEY News morning show, has witnessed tragedy and danger in her career. But nothing the accomplished professional has experienced has prepared her for when her seven-year-old daughter, Janie, is snatched from summer camp. The country's viewers are glued to their television sets, anxiously awaiting the news that their favorite morning-television personality's little girl has been found. With each passing day, the FBI and local authorities track down every lead: A profile of the kidnapper's most likely characteristics is developed, every fan letter written to Eliza over the last six months is scrutinized, every sex offender registered within a fifty-mile radius is interviewed, and psychics from around the country appear on Eliza's doorstep offering their help. But Eliza isn't going to sit around and wait for answers. She and the rest of the Sunrise Suspense Society—brilliant producer Annabelle Murphy, cameraman extraordinaire B.J. D'Elia, and psychiatrist Dr. Margo Gonzalez—will band together to outwit a cunning criminal whose shocking motives threaten to snuff out a terrified little girl's life.

Child kidnapping centers this story August 20, 2008 I live in Jefferson County, Missouri, about 30 minutes from where Shawn Hornbeck was kidnapped near his Richwoods' home and an hour from Kirkwood where he was found, alive, four years later. So the stories of kidnapped children have surrounded me and have fascinated, frightened, and intrigued me. Though a fictional account, It Only Takes a Moment is a thriller that captures the fear and uncertainty that surrounds the story of a kidnapped child and the theories about who was involved.
Widowed morning news host, Eliza Blake's daughter, Janie has been abducted with her housekeeper, Carmen, who was an unwilling accomplice to the kidnapping. Eliza and her friends Annabelle, B.J. and Margo, a.k.a. the Sunrise Suspense Society, set out to find her with the help and sometimes hindrance of the F.B.I., local law enforcement, the press, and various eyewitnesses.
The story moves along at a brisk pace with very short chapters and does well with the coverage of kidnappings and the theories that is associated with it. Many characters have their suspicions, and others, from Carmen and her immigrant family, to an argumentative childless couple, to Eliza herself, are held under scrutiny. The way Clark writes is exactly how many people react following such a story and what they might say about the people involved.
The main characters are wonderful and very multi-dimensional. Though worried about her daughter, Eliza is not a passive heroine. With her loyal and talented friends, she takes action. She confronts news people, starts a website to locate Janie, and investigates lead after lead. Carmen and Janie are also very strong-willed in their captivity, terrified, but also willing to fight their assailants and try to escape. Even the kidnappers are given reasons for what they do, making them somewhat understandable.
There are also some interesting supporting characters, such as the eccentric psychic, Stephanie Quick who steals every scene that she is in. Unfortunately one too many side characters are introduced and subplots and red herrings try to throw the reader, but never get resolved so they end up being confusing and irritating. After awhile, it's hard to tell who's who and we are left with questions about plots that were left hanging by the all-too abrupt ending.
Armchair Interviews says: A good book that would have been improved with editing and attention to some details.
Not worth your time August 19, 2008 I've read all of her books and usually enjoy them but this one was a big disappointment. In fact if she repeated herself, which happens quite often in this book, I'd just skim ahead. I couldn't wait to finish it so I could move on to something more interesting. The story fell flat and I wouldn't recommend it.
A good mystery, well done! August 19, 2008 A well-rounded book, I recommend this read to anyone who likes a good mystery. Ms. Clark has done a good job of bringing the reader along on her twisting, turning journey into the kidnapping of a child and the events that follow.

Excellent reading... August 14, 2008 It Only Takes A Moment Mary Jane Clark William Morrow, 2008 ISBN: 9780061562877 5 Stars Reviewed by K Ramsey for ReviewYourBook.com Eliza Blake has a great career as a TV anchorwoman. She is a devoted mother to her daughter. When her daughter Janie and housekeeper Mrs. Gracias are kidnapped, Eliza learns how it feels to be on the other side of the camera. Family and friends rally around her to bring Janie and Mrs. Gracias back, but in the end, it is Eliza that finds out who the other kidnapper is. WOW!! It Only Takes A Moment is sure to be a best seller! It Only Takes A Moment is strong on suspense. I felt like I was in the midst of the drama. This is one of the best suspense novel I have read in a long time.
Spellbinding~Great Mystery~Surprise Ending!! August 14, 2008 Mary Jane Clark has done it again. I could not put this book down. I have been a fan of her mothers mystery novels for years, loved the one written together and now also a fan of Mary Jane on her own. Clearly talent runs in the family.
This is a story of a Famous News figure Eliza and her daughter Janie. The child is kidnapped from her day camp along with the housekeeeper Mrs Garcia.
There are many leads that come in and calls to the FBI and Police. Elzia also even listens to what a phychic has to say. Elzia's instincts are key in the solving of the case. At times there are three or more stories going on and you think you have it all figured out. You probably don't....I didn't get it until the last few chapters.
This is what I call a great read. It keeps you turning the pages..just one more chapter. The chapers are very short so this can go on late unto the night.
You will not be disappointed in this mystery. I loved it right up to the very last page.
