Product Description For more than thirty years, Pern has conjured visions of brave men and women mounted upon the backs of dragons. As anyone knows who has been touched by the storytelling magic of Anne McCaffrey, to read of the exotic world of Pern is to inhabit it—and to experience its extraordinary dragons is to soar aloft with them and share their dazzling adventures.
Now, A Gift of Dragons brings together three beloved stories and a thrilling new tale of Pern in a single volume illustrated with beautiful artwork by Tom Kidd. In “The Smallest Dragonboy,” Keevan is the youngest dragonrider candidate, determined to impress a dragon when the next clutch of eggs hatches. But what transpires will surprise everyone—Keevan most of all. In “The Girl Who Heard Dragons,” a young girl’s rare ability to communicate with dragons puts her family in danger and will bring her face to face with her greatest fears—and with her most secret desire. The “Runner of Pern” is a girl named Tenna, who follows family tradition by delivering messages—and who will find her destiny on the mossy traces that runners have used for centuries under the dragon-filled sky. And finally, a very special gift: an exciting new Pern adventure, published here for the first time, fresh from the imagination of Anne McCaffrey.

4 Different Stories August 4, 2008 This is a good book, but remember it's four separate glances into four different tales. I know at least one is from a full book, but the others may be only short stories added in for this. Not full novel like the rest of Pern Series.
Wonderful Introduction April 13, 2008 I came into the Pern series and Anne McCaffrey's writing when I was around the age of 10. I found the books wonderful and exciting. The way McCaffrey gives life to her characters is amazing! A Gift of Dragons is great for people who have never read the Pern series and for those who love the series.
The first three stories are parts of larger books, I own them all. The fourth story is new and wonderful like her larger books. For people new to the series, this gives a small look at how Pern is built and how entwining her stories are. The short stories are a light read, with adventure, a wonderful introduction to Pern.
As someone who owns most of McCaffrey's books, I could not pass this one up even though the first three stories are part of already published books. I found the stories enjoyable, and it reminds me why I love her books so much.
Anything about PERN written by Ann McCaffrey January 28, 2008 As always any book written by Ann McCaffrey is wonderful. The entire world of PERN is a place you love to visit.
Not Free SF Reader December 1, 2007 In a collection clearly aimed at kids, it has a few things going for it, some nifty dragon illustrations - particularly one with a young dragon doing a superhero wagon lift, which is pretty funny.
Brown colored paper and a nifty little paperback sized hardback is ok, too, as far as that goes.
Pretty much it seems I am a sucker for a boy and his telepathic smartarse flying lizard story, it seems.

Cracked up, busted up and short gets the bronze.

Talk with the animals. Can't walk with them though, gotta fly or teleport, pretty much.

What do you do when someone tries to run you down? Deck their brother, get them to buy you new shoes, and kiss them a lot.

A Gift of Dragons October 2, 2007 Good read. Story about a young girl outside the community of dragonriders who entered their community. She was/is a person who "hears" all dragons but is not bonded to one specific dragon. I enjoyed it.
