Great Book August 7, 2008 I enjoy all of the Tanya Huff Valor books and this is another great addition to the tale. I am happy she is writing in this storyline again.
wow July 31, 2008 a great continuation of a great series, ive been reading Huff for years and like her work but this series is well up to her best standards. i bought this in paperback and seeing the blurb for Valor's Trial: A Confederation Novel (The Conferedation Novels) i went and ordered the hardback right away. a great read.
Sergeant Kerr Shines Again July 2, 2008 Tanya Huff delivers another fast paced story in the Confederacy universe. This is not just another "shootem up" military SF novel. Her characters, even the alien allies, have personalities whith which one can empathize. Sergeant Kerr has to deal with the mistakes of the "brass" above her as well as confront the enemies facing her. Her use of her training, experience and willpower in dealing with her problems makes for a very enjoyable read.
Bad...even for a Valor novel June 23, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
The Valor books aren't my favorite to begin with, but this one, unlike the first two, was virtually unreadable. Completely predictable (from the moment the doctor says she managed to get her hands on a quantity of organic plasticine only the most dimwitted of readers wouldn't immediately figure out everything). And since that reveal occurred in the first couple of chapters, the rest of the novel fails to entertain. Huff's space opera concept is becoming so convoluted it's boring. Hopefully she'll get this out of her system soon and return to books that are driven by character and real plots instead of a reliance on techno-gadgets and a never ending series of explosions and battles, the vast majority of which I skimmed through entirely (which reduces the book down to about 30 pages), Also, since there is virtually no character building in these books, when the characters do go boom, the readers don't really care. The characters are all red shirts, and therefore, their deaths are meaningless and lack impact, rather like the novel itself.
Great! June 18, 2008 Another great book about Torin Kerr. The books have a really nice pacing. You can believe that it takes the characters a little longer then you to figure out the mystery since they are also fighting to stay a live. This is one of my favorite series and I'm glad to see its still got a great plot and great action. I would highly recommend it.
