| Editorial Reviews:
Product Description Cleft Palate and Craniofacial Anomalies: Effects on Speech and Resonance is the only book of its kind that covers both oral and facial anomalies and cleft palate. Designed as a how-to guide for the practicing clinician, this book emphasizes what students, clinicians new to this population, and any member of a cleft palate team need to know in the workplace. It includes information on common craniofacial anomalies, associated anomalies, and genetic syndromes. Everything from basic information on anatomy, physiology, and embryology of the face and oral cavity to oral, dental, and ENT anomalies and their effects on speech, resonance, and feeding are covered. The evaluation section includes the perceptual evaluation of speech and resonance, the intraoral examination, and instrumental assessment procedures. The treatment section includes surgical procedures, prosthetic devices, and therapies designed to address speech, resonance, and velopharyngeal dysfunction. The need for multidisciplinary team assessment and treatment is also emphasized throughout.

A nice overview of available information February 24, 2006 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is a nice reference to introduce you general issues, anatomic structures, and therapeutic and surgical techniques involved in the care of patients with craniofacial anomalies.
Great text for graduate students! April 9, 2003 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
I have been teaching a graduate course in cleft palate and craniofacial anomalies for 20+ years. I am thrilled with Dr. Kummer's text. Students love it! It has a strong research base, but the information has excellent clinical application and is very readable with many case studies. Although it is geared toward speech-language pathologists, its multi-disciplinary orientation would make it a useful resource for any member of a cleft palate team. The information is complex enough to be useful to an experienced team member, yet the novice reader is given sufficient background information to be able to grow with the text. Exceptionally thorough and highly recommended!
