Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Referred to as the "Grand Prix of epidemiology" by The New York Times, this study examines more than 350 variables of health and nutrition with surveys from 6,500 adults in more than 2,500 counties across China and Taiwan, and conclusively demonstrates the link between nutrition and heart disease, diabetes, and cancer. While revealing that proper nutrition can have a dramatic effect on reducing and reversing these ailments as well as curbing obesity, this text calls into question the practices of many of the current dietary programs, such as the Atkins diet, that are widely popular in the West. The politics of nutrition and the impact of special interest groups in the creation and dissemination of public information are also discussed.

5 out of 5 stars My Jaw Dropped   July 18, 2008

This book is one of these books that each page makes your jaw drop. Despite overwhelming evidence, it is amazing that this has not taken a bigger stage with the public. I guess we love our high animal protein diets too much. For those of you who have health problems, take heed to the words inside this book.

My brother-in-law was diagnosed with cancer about a month ago. My sister insisted I get this book for him. He sent me an email saying this book totally confirms everything he's heard, read or researched. He said he loved the book.

5 out of 5 stars A Must Read Book on Nutrition & Cancer and Other Diseases   July 7, 2008

Before I review the book, a little history of me here:

When I was a chubby girl in college I tried many kinds of diet to lose weight, and one of them was a "healthier" form of Atkins diet, called the South Beach diet. I read from a Women's Health magazine that it's effective and nutritious. At the time, I did not have any knowledge of nutrition, and unfortunately I had followed the diet thinking that it's healthy. Of course, I gained weight soon after unable to keeping up with the diet and failed miserably. I was sick all the time also and didn't know why. I had many health problems and was on a variety of different prescription drugs that my doctor urged me to take.

Many years later, I decided to become a pure vegetarian not only because of health but because of realization of my diet's impact on the environment and animal welfare, thanks to several documentaries called Baraka & Earthlings. When I became a vegetarian I lost weight almost effortlessly, and as I gradually dropped dairy and egg products from my diet I lost even more weight - the weight that I had worked so hard to lose but failed to as a non-vegetarian! I am now healthier than ever, never get sick, and feel so much better overall, all without depending on unnecessary drugs and doctor visits.

Even so, after I read this important book - the largest research conducted on correlation between nutrition and health - I was extremely shocked at this fascinating study. Now, I cannot stop talking about the book with everyone that I care about. Everyone who is interested in their health effects of consuming animal products should read this very important book.

According to the study, cancer, heart diseases, osteoporosis, obesity, diabetes, high cholesterol - all of these modern diseases can be prevented and even reversed by whole food, plant-based diet! I am now a firm believer of this, as I watched my family members suffer greatly (i.e. cancer, osteoporosis, etc.) due to their animal-based diets. Everything became so clear to me. Now, my whole family follow a more plant-based diet than ever. My sister, my boyfriend, and even my mom - follow a vegetarian diet and have improved their health greatly.

Everything makes sense to me. There are so much misinformation out there regarding diet and health, that public can be easily confused about what and how one should eat, like I was.

As a vegan who was once a heavy meat-eater, I hope more people can realize the truth and obtain better health, as well as helping to restore our environment, and end unnecessary suffering of animals.
