WORDS ARE GOOD FOR YOU !!!! December 4, 2008 A very good and appealing text for foreign students to learn new words. Graphics is perfect. We are enthusiastic with it.
Excellent way for those wanting to learn English! November 30, 2008 I help to teach international ladies conversational English. This book is a LIFESAVER! Before I found this I spent hours on the internet looking for sources. The topics are perfect for teaching conversation. The pictures help teach the words. At the bottom of the pages are even tips for those teaching!
Good staff that I was searching for a long time November 2, 2008 The book contains all I expected and it will help me to improve my English. This is the kind of dictionary that I was searching for.
great tool for ESL classes September 7, 2008 As an Oxford book, I'm not surprised that some of the English words used seem more European than American, so I supplement their terms with what I most commonly hear in my region of the U.S. As one other reviewer mentioned, there is not pronunciation help accompanying each word, but as a textbook for a teacher-led class, this book is outstanding. The pictures are done in a way that communicates the concept better than some other picture dictionaries I've seen, and it allows me to quickly convey ideas to a multicultural class. I still use examples, gestures, and acting out, but this book usually gets the idea across quicker and more accurately. And the combination of pictures with my demonstrations makes my students feel confident that they understand. I loved the old version, but this monolingual edition is the best yet.
Living in the U.S.(Japanese) March 1, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Useful for knowing the daily living, or basic culture. And it is easy to read. This book is aimed at kids, but how can I live without these word? There is many fundamentals for living in this country. I could understand many kinds of word visually. In addition to this, the illustrations are enjoyable. I use this book first, next I want to teach English to my family with this book.
