Product Description Geena cant wait to spend summer vacation at the Triple Shot Betty coffee shop with her best friend, Amber, and her cousin, Hero. But Amber and Hero hate each other on sight, and Geenas dreams of a girl-bonding summer fly out the windowthen vanish entirely when a few cute (okay, drop-dead gorgeous) guys enter the picture. All is not what it seems, though, and in a story of mistaken identities, summer high jinks, and just enough romance, Geena and her friends learn that when Bettys unite, they can take on the most powerful force in their world: a hot guy.

Title: Confessions of a Triple Shot Betty Author: Jody Gehrman Grade: A- Ideal Audience: Girls, 12-17 Reading Type(s): The Fun Reader & The Down-to-Earth Reader
Summary: Geena has plans for the summer. She's going to hang with her friend, Amber, and cousin, Hero, while they work at the Triple Shot Betty shack. It doesn't quite work out that way, though. Amber, who over the years has established quite a bad reputation, immediately dislikes conservative, proper Hero. Hero, in turn, can't stand Amber. Geena ends up spending her time trying to cool things down between her two best friends.
After a while, though, Amber and Hero reach a tentative truce, and the two work behind Geena's back to set her up with her worst enemy, Ben! When Geena finds out about their plan, she's angry with her friends, but the seed has already been planted, and Geena can't ignore her softer feelings for Ben.
Meanwhile, Ben isn't the only boy who is on the girls' minds. Hero falls in love with Claudio, an Italian boy who's working at her father's orchard. Amber still isn't over her ex-boyfriend, John, who Geena is finding out might be a capital-L Loser.
Geena realizes that her summer might be turning out just the way she wanted it to... until something happens that could tear the girls apart once and for all.
My thoughts: Confessions of a Triple Shot Betty is based off of Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing, which is a nice refresher from all the books based off of Romeo and Juliet. I also loved the modern twists that Jody Gehrman threw in.
This book will appeal to a lot of teenage girls. Fans of chick-lit will appreciate the book's atmosphere, girls who like Shakespeare will like finding the connections, and still others will love Geena's sarcastic voice.
Liv's Book Reviews August 15, 2008 First off, I must say that I am in love with the cover to this book. Not only is it scratch 'n sniff, but it's adorable. I love all the little curlicues, the hot pink color, the heart in the coffee, the font, everything. And the headers on the pages of the book are the cutest. If only every book was as aesthetically pleasing as this one. And for the most part, the book matched the cover. This is definitely the book you want to pick up if you are looking for a beach read. It's the definition of fluff and mindlessness. But not in a bad way. You can pick it up and just read. You don't have to think about the story, and while you're doing your non-thinking, you can get into the book too. The characters are cute, although semi-unrealistic. The plot is unplausible, but fun and enjoyable at the same time. And the writing, I think, is the best part. Jody Gehrman was able to write this book in a way that will draw anybody in. She's got her tone, her jokes, her references, and her whole style down pat. I loved reading something that didn't take any getting used to or analyzing. I was able to jump into the flow of the book from the first page. The other thing that I liked a lot about the book was the plot. And yes, while many of the things that happened are entirely unrealistic, they were made to seem like they might actually happen. It was light, enthralling, and laugh-out-loud funny. And for me, that's basically all I need in a book, so I stand satisfied and ready for a future barista job perhaps. :D

CONFESSIONS OF A TRIPLE SHOT BETTY JODY GEHRMAN
Rating: 4 Enchantments
Geena Sloane hopes that this summer will be the best yet, after all her cousin Hero is coming home and will be working with her and Geena's best friend Amber at Triple Shot Betty. However, she didn't count on them hating each other on sight. Now all her plans for girls' nights hanging out are teetering on the brink of never happening.
Geena, Amber and Hero are three girls who couldn't be more different. Geena's all about becoming valedictorian and is known as the skater chick; Amber has a `rep' with around town and Hero is the shy, boarding school girl with an overprotective father, who because of her sister's mistakes won't let her date till she's in college.
I really liked how CONFESSIONS OF A TRIPLE SHOT BETTY was set up, written in a journal style, rather than chapter form. Filled with some great secondary characters, which Ms. Gehrman does so well, I loved how when things went downhill, it was the stofers who figured into the girls' plans on how to get even with `The Man'.
One of the scenes I really enjoyed was when Geena sees Ben, her really hot arch rival and possible crush, biking by her house (which is highly unusual) and decides to go out and see what he's doing. Instead of simply going outside, she pretends to look for her non-existant dog, Auggie. It was truly one of the most laugh-out-loud scenes in the book.
All in all, CONFESSIONS OF A TRIPLE SHOT BETTY is great, fun read, perfect to tote with you on summer vacation or just laying out by the pool.
This is Ms. Gehrman's first Young Adult novel. She previously wrote chick-lit for Red Dress Ink. You can learn more about Ms. Gehrman's books at her website, http://www.jodygehrman.com
Lisa Enchanting Reviews April 2008
Great Summer Read!! June 16, 2008 I received this book from the author, Jody Gehrman, herself. Based on this, I really wanted to like this book and leave a good review. Thankfully, I actually enjoyed the book immensely. I greatly enjoyed this take on Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing. I immediately recognized the classic characters! I believe it's a definite feat to make Shakespeare modern! Gehrman did an amazing job! I loved the female friendships in the book and swooned over Ben Bettaglia with Geena! It was a smooth read. I could've read it it one day! It's a compelling story that moves along nicely until the satisfying ending! I would definitely recommmend it but caution that there is a lot of sexual references and some language. Thanks Jody for writing a great book about girl-power!

"Confessions of a Triple Shot Betty" is a story about three girls: Geena, her best friend Amber, and her favorite cousin Hero. Geena wants to hang out with both Amber and Hero during the summer vacation. But when Amber and Hero meet, they hate each other at first sight! Amber hates Hero because she thinks that Hero is a rich spoiled daddy's girl, and Hero thinks that Amber is stuck up! All Geena wants to do is hang out with Amber and Hero, at the coffee shop, but how can she when her two best friends keep fighting!
Also during the summer, the high school hottie, John, starts to like Hero, but she keeps on ignoring him. Then John sets out to publicly humiliate Hero since she doesn't like him. After he succeeds, Amber, Geena, Hero, and all of the other girls John has humiliated, start to get revenge! The ways they think of are hilarious! Quite true-to-life, though, because I can think of friends of mine who would try to do similar things!
Later in the book, Geena gets tricked by her friends by them trying together to go out with her arch-nemesis, Ben Bettaglia. Her friends and Ben's are trying to tell Geena that Ben really likes her, while Ben's friends are trying to tell him that Geena likes him also.
In the middle of the book while Geena and her friends are at a pool party, Geena goes to the bathroom and overhears her friends and Ben's friends talking about the trick so Geena gets sad and mad and confronts her friends. Then she starts running away and finds out that Ben is following her. When he catches up with her she finds out that she really does like him and that he likes her also.
I liked this book a lot. The first chapter or so started out a little slowly, but after that, the writing style seemed to flow smoother and it captured my interest. It is a sassy romance, and the personalities of the three main characters, Hero, Geena and Amber, are very well described. I laughed a lot as the girls went from bitter enemies to good friends. The best part of the book is when Geena finds out she is tricked, runs away from the pool where her friends were, gets chased by Ben, and finds out that she really does like him!
This book is perfect for teen girls. I hope you enjoy reading "Confessions of a Triple Shot Betty" as much as I did.
