A Blessing November 29, 2008 This book was recommended by a friend. I have a daughter who is a teacher in Junior Hi School and was going through some hard times with some of her student's attitudes. I called her and told her I had just purchased this book and was sending it to her. She called me about a week later and informed me of how the book was a blessing because it refreshed her spirit. This book addressed some of the very things she was going through in her relationships. She loved it! She thanked me for thinking of her and said she was telling others about it. Thank you Mr. Bowen: Tony Del Rio
Bringing out the Dreamers November 3, 2008 It never fails that the most newsworthy stories seem to be those of the teacher that has made mistakes. This book should be in every beginning teacher class, it should be required reading for those students in Liberal Arts who aren't sure of the path they want to take. This book takes all the good, bad and indifferent about teaching and shows the reader that although teachers do not make the headlines for all the things they do...they do make a difference in the lives of our children... the lives of our future...the lives of our dreamers...the lives that should matter most. Any parent, educator, or person who comes into contact with children should buy it. It validates those feelings you always knew but could never express...I may be the teacher, but who is actually learning? This is the kind of book you keep, and every once in awhile re-visit, because what it contains will never change and will continue to re-new your mind, spirit and soul. Read it you won't be disappointed!
Great book - deserves more than 5 stars! October 27, 2008 This is a lovely little book...so inspiring. I bought a copy, then decided it would be a great present for the teachers on my list. Then I realized - why just teachers? This is the perfect book for parents too. It makes you think, laugh, and even tear up at times. Chris Bowen seems to be a truly uplifting teacher. I wish all teachers had his mindset. And I hope he writes more soon - his stories are great.
5 Kleenex Book October 25, 2008 My mom and I used to rate movies by the number of Kleenex you'd need to get through it. Our system got a little out of control as she had a flair for the dramatic and the ratings got a bit exaggerated when she started rating them with boxes of tissue, rather than just the tissues alone. We had to come to an agreement, and 5 tissues became the max. "Just like for hotels", Dad wisely suggested. And it was done. This is a 5 tissue book. My book almost got speed wobbles I was turning the pages so quickly!
LOVED IT!!! October 21, 2008 In today's public school environment it is easy for a teacher to get weighed down with the stress of state testing and state standards. This book was my way of getting back in touch with the reason I became a teacher, for the kids! I love it when a book can make me laugh, cry, think, and reflect. Our Kids: Building Relationships in the Classroom is that book! I loved it and HIGHLY recommend it to any teacher or administrator.
