5 out of 5 stars "Simply breath taking....I love the Hathaway family"   March 16, 2010
pen pen (Washington, DC)
LK does such a spectacular job bringing the characters from the Hathaway family to life. This book was very entertaining. Never a dull moment. Poppy's (heroine) character was shown with brilliance. Harry (hero) is dark, clever, handsome, rich, sexy, ect..... It is always a pleasure getting to know each and every character from this family. Leo's character really comes to life in this book. He is so funny, I found myself laughing at his dialogue quite often. This series gets better each time. I wasn't sure about reading Poppy's story. However, I thoroughly enjoyed it. This story ends with a wonderful twist regarding Leo and Catherine. I can't wait to read Leo's story. This was awesomely done. Thank you so much LK for the Hathaway's. They are funny, strange, genuine, lovable, wacky and weird...And I love them. I'm going to hate when this series ends.

5 out of 5 stars LISA KLEYPAS HAS STRUCK GOLD AGAIN!!   March 9, 2010
Michelle R. (USA)
Harry serves all ties with his latest fling, once he becomes familiar with Poppy's captivating intelligence, beauty, and heart. Harry's treachery will stop at nothing to win over his princess, even stoop so low and cause heartache for Poppy's current and possible betroth, Michael. Harry contacts Michael's father and advises him of the possible marriage plans Michael might be having for one of the Hathaway sisters. Someone who is beneath their social status. Someone who does not come with an enormous dowry. Someone that doesn't even come close to being an heiress.

Once Poppy is heartbroken from the loss of Michael, that's when Harry swoops in and makes his move. He couldn't care less if Poppy doesn't come from money all he wants is possession of her, as she's some sort of trinket he can amuse himself with. As Harry captures Poppy within a web of possible scandal, he makes a marriage proposal to her; however, he also comes with a few stipulations. Poppy can have his body, but NOT his heart, mind, and above all his soul. With all this to consider, what's a girl to do?

Live in exile for the rest of her life on her family's estate, or be married to a man who comes with several barriers? Can Poppy brake down the many layers of high constructed walls against Harry's heart? Can she persuade Harry to beome a truly dignified man with feelings, beyond just having them for himself? Read the book to come to the conclusion, but I can promise you that you will NOT be disappointed.

Lisa Kleypas has done it again with this book from the Hathaway Series, leaving room to divulge a sneak peak at Leo's story as well. As Ms. Kleypas gives an array of twist and turns that will leave you craving for more, and delivering more as well. The mysteries and thillers hidden deep within will have you guessing until the very end. The passionate longing desire that Poppy & Harry possess for one another will have you lusting for your own climax. Exceptionally written, down to earth humor, and an eminent story line. AS USUAL DESERVES WELL BEYOND A 5 STAR RATING!!

3 out of 5 stars Two books in one   February 21, 2010
La Blue Eyes (Fremont, CA)
I found Harry to be an extremely fascinating character. He was selfish, determined and remorseless. In other words he was great hero material. Poppy's character was never fully developed. Aside for a lost love, we knew very little about her except for the classic romantic regency character of a woman who lives in the 19th century, but has modern ideas and takes on society living. The first half of the book was fascinating, their meeting, their marriage. Then it all goes down hill. Poppy comes out as an immature girl who runs home to "the family in happy perfect-ville" when times get tough without figuring out her problems herself. Harry who was once a tight-lipped man in complete control of his surroundings and emotions then becomes this uncertain guy who is constantly apologizing and comes out as a wimp who is afraid to face his wife when she's angry without first getting advice from "the family in we-can-make-anything-happen-ville". I mean seriously what man wants a honeymoon with his in-laws? This book got so ridiculous. The characters made such extreme personality changes that they became completely unbelievable and for me not much respected. I enjoyed the first two books of this series so much and I would hope the fourth will be better than this one instead of relying on "the family in miracle-come-true land" to solve all the problems.

4 out of 5 stars Love Those Hathaways!   February 11, 2010
BJ Rose (So. California)
This is one of those almost-but-not-quite 5* reads. It was easy to understand why Harry didn't believe in love and didn't trust affection, so I could see why he chose the strategy he did to acquire what he wanted - and he wanted Poppy. But the fact that he knew -and didn't care - that his actions were intentionally hurtful towards Poppy made it difficult for me to even want him to succeed. Naturally, Lisa Kleypas knows how to bring us around to her way of thinking: Harry redeemed himself wonderfully, leading to some tear-worthy lines with his version of romantic words: "You're my balance wheel, Poppy" - out of context, it doesn't do much for you, but when you read the whole speech, it is very romantic.

Seeing how the hotel staff genuinely cared for Harry-the-person as well as Mr. Rutledge-the-employer let us know there had to be more to Harry than projected to the world, but of course it took Harry longer to realize that maybe friends are really not more inconvenient than enemies. And when he realized that the something magical in Ramsay House was really love, I knew that he was worthy of Poppy.

The Hathaway family is what makes this series so great - I read Mine Till Midnight because I wanted to read more about Cam, but then I fell in love with the Hathaways - it's always fun to see what they're going to do next (like rescue a macaque from the hotel food lift!). And after what happened in this book, I'm more eager than ever to read the story of Catherine and Leo, but I'm wondering if Beatrix's story will come before theirs. No matter - I'm looking forward to both!
