Scents I've tried so far... May 7, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
New Zealand - this one is green with a slight stoney bite to it. Unisex. Overall, it smells like assorted greenery and cold water.
Rain - a somewhat generic, but still very pleasing aquatic. Anyone who likes 'blue' and 'white' scents will like it.
Wet Garden - Has a wet sappy smell, with a background of clean pink flowers. Most should find it agreeable... you could probably wear it around the headache-prone people in your life.
Watermelon Lollipop - Simple, tart and sweet, candy-ish. A lot like a watermelon Jolly Rancher.
Sour Apple Lollipop - See above. ^_^ Same Jolly Rancher vibe.
Cosmopolitan Cocktail - Smells like Smarties candy at first, but when it warms, it matures a bit, and a mellow cranberry scent takes over.
Pomegranate - I didn't get a real pomegranate feel from this one, but it's still very nice, with a dark berry scent.
THINGS TO REMEMBER:
Yes, most of these DO smell like alcohol in the bottle. They're alcohol based, so put them on and give them a chance to warm up, then you'll have the true fragrance.
They DON'T have real lasting power. (Again, because of the alcohol.)
Just because a scent works for someone else doesn't mean it'll work for you, and vice versa. Listen to all of these reviews knowing that. ^_^
Great earthy scent. February 12, 2008 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
My husband wears this every day. Sometimes he layers it with grass for a more complex scent.
Love Demeter fragrances, but... December 13, 2007 A local store where I live once carried the full line of Demeter fragrances, and I had yet to sample one I disliked. I have worn "Honeysuckle" for quite some time and I love the simple, natural scent (and unlike many fragrances, I don't get sick of smelling it as the day progresses....it creates just the right amount of aroma to be pleasant). However, I purchased "Violet," and I wasn't too impressed with the scent...I honestly don't think it smells much like violets. Granted, this particular flower is different than most floral fragrances, but I feel the Demeter take on it just doesn't quite hit the mark.
Interesting scents but with no staying power August 27, 2007 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Unable to decide what scent to spend $18 dollars on, given that there were mixed reviews and poor descriptions of each scent, I went to the Demeter site and ordered a few of their 5 oz samples (at a $1/ounce it might be a bit much for something so small) Here's my review of what I got for $5 a bottle.
Dirt- Smells like alcohol at first sniff but on the skin it is a nice earthy smell, like wet black soil. I like it a lot.
Grass- some people call this "fresh mowed" smell but for me it smells like fields of overgrown grassy hay in the summer, sweet and green. It reminds me of sleep away camp in the mountains and I love it.
Honeysuckle- this scent is perfect, not too artifically sweet, they included the nice floral notes in with a bit of the green smell. It's the best part of summer in a bottle.
Thunderstorm- this scent is not reminiscent of any thunderstorm that I've experienced and the smell reminds me a bit of how my older brother would smell before going out on a date, slightly overpowering. There's an underlying smell that I cannot quite finger too, worms or something. Strange but true. I wouldn't order it again.
Earl Grey Tea- I drink the tea almost daily (milk and sugar thank you very much) and thought the way the tea smells is a bit spicier. Smelling it now, it's kind of bug-spray like. I probably would not order this again.
Gingerale- Very nice gingerale scent. I like gingerale but I think since I usually drink it when sick or on airplanes, there's a sort of airplane bathroom I associate with it. Suggestion if you do like gingerale smell but would like something more pleasant, try Philosophy's Gingerbread Man scrub. It's a little more ginger, a little less ale I guess. That's what I get for trying to smell like soda.
So I loved the first three, eh on the last three although they were all quite unique. I like to layer the Dirt, Grass and Honeysuckle for a sweet summery smell that I'm sure will come in handy as it gets colder and darker. On another note, Demeter very nicely included a sample of Caramel body wash. The Caramel scent was AWESOME, not too sweet with sort of a toasted sugar thing going on. My boyfriend dug it. As a body wash it was just so-so (a 3 perhaps) but I might order the scent.
To sum, +4 stars for a cool range of scents, the trick is to find what appeals to you personally. Minus 1 star because after about 2 hours, the scent is MIA.
honeysuckle spray April 4, 2007 I purchased the honeysuckle spray; it smells wonderful and just like the honeysuckle bush that I passed each day while walking home from elementary school in the springtime.
