This product contains glycolic acid. Your skin, especially if it's sensitive (like mine) and if you're not currently using a glycolic acid product, will take some time getting used to this. *Breaking News* There isn't a "gentle" way to effectively even skintone or reduce fine lines. Any effective product is going to contain, most likely, some type of acid and you're going to need to use it as your skin tolerates it. I recommend that you follow the directions (apply 15 min. after cleansing) and if you notice redness/sensitivity treat it like a benzoyl peroxide product (go find an acne med and read the directions). I've switched between this and Vanicream, gradually using this more often as my skin adapts. My skin is more even, I have less acne, and my skin holds moisture much better than before I began using this product.

I do not have sensitive skin, so I ignored the reviews here that mentioned skin irritation. I used it once a day. Day One, it itched until absorbed by my skin. No big deal, I can live with that. Day Two, more itching, a little more bothersome. Skipped a night. Day Four (treatment #3), I had to wash it off my face within 10 minutes - it itched insanely! Skipped two nights. Tonight (Day Seven, but treatment #4) it *burned*, it has been off my skin for 30 minutes now and it feels like I have a sunburn. I couldn't wash it off fast enough. I feel sorry for those with sensitive skin! I'll think twice before using another Avon product. I used to use Guerlain, maybe you do get what you pay for after all.
Terrible Allergic Reaction November 3, 2007

If I could rate this product at less than zero, I would. Unfortunately the rating system doesn't allow for negataive numbers! I used it every other night for less than a week and developed a terrible allergic reaction in the form of a red bumpy rash. The rash is everywhere where I used the product (Avon Alternative Intensive Age Treatment).
Don't use this product until you've done a patch test. Based on the reviews I've read, I would continue the patch test for at least a month before using it on face or neck. Better safe than sorry!

My friend who sells Avon, gave me a sample of the Anew Alternative Intensive Age Treatment. Let me add that I'm 26 and figured that a free sample of moisturizer couldn't hurt anyone. Well, I used the product for one night (Saturday) and by Monday morning, I woke up to find a rash on both checks that is red and blotchy and feels like a scab. I didn't make such a big deal out of it, but it is now itchy. I'm a little worried after reading the other reviews. I am so glad that I only used this product one time. Shame on Avon for putting out a product that has such negative side effects on many people.
