5 out of 5 stars Review of the FP Sound and Lights Moniter   December 28, 2008
I love this moniter! It has worked better than any others I used with my other kids. I can put her upstairs in her crib and go dowstairs to the basement and still get good reception.

2 out of 5 stars Too much static!   December 2, 2008
This monitor is horrible. It creates so much static and buzzes and wakes me up several times a night. Everything and anything causes interference with it -- microwave, radio, cell phone, heating pad. I also hear a radio station playing on it I've tried both A and B settings.

My advice -- DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!

4 out of 5 stars Works great in the country.   November 12, 2008

First off- I live way out in the country, so I don't have the problems that the other users have with picking up noises from the outdoors. Perhaps that is the main reason others have had issues. For me the sound is crisp, clear, and there is little to no static. It seems to pick up only close range noises. We have it sitting next to the crib and have never had a problem with it. At night, if I'm feeling nervous, I'm able to turn up the sound loud enough to hear my baby breathing (and it's so clear that it doesn't wake my husband).

They could have made it sturdier. I don't have issues with it's functionality but in a busy household if it did fall off a table we'd likely have to buy a new one.

1 out of 5 stars Well, you certainly get what you pay for.   August 28, 2008

I needed a cheap and temporary replacement for my nice (Sony) monitor that I accidentally left at my ILs. I headed out and bought the cheapest thing I could find....and that's what I got. A cheap monitor.

It looks and feels like a toy. If you drop it on the floor, it will likely shatter into a few pieces. The AC adaptor won't stay plugged into the receiver so I have to make sure that there is no tension on the cord from the receiver to the wall or it won't stay plugged in. Nice.

The sound quality is not surprisingly horrible. I hear mostly static but am able to hear my child when he cries or talks. There is also lot of interference. Any time a car passes by in front of our home, the signal breaks up and cracks and pops. And as I'm sitting here typing this, I hear faint music coming from the receiver. In case you're wondering, there is no music in my child's room. Must be picking up a subspace signal.

I had thought I might keep the cheap monitor and just leave it my ILs for future travel, however we will definitely be returning this one when my old monitor arrives. It's soooo not worth the hassle.

3 out of 5 stars Too much static   July 24, 2008

I have only used this monitor for five days, and will contact Fisher-Price soon to learn if my unit is defective. While the monitor functions, the receiver unit plays an enormous amount of static if it's set any louder than silent. A less expensive Safety 1st monitor (used at the grandparents' house last week) was completely quiet unless the baby cried. For now, I keep the monitor silent and use the sound indicator lights (a helpful feature) -- but that is only workable as long as I'm sitting at my desk.
