5 out of 5 stars great toilet seat for independent toddlers   November 9, 2008
This is a great seat for my toddler. She is very independent. We have an oblong toilet seat and it works fine but we put it on with the toilet seat down, not up as suggested by instructions. Would definitely buy again.

5 out of 5 stars A Great Solution to Wobbly Potty Seats   October 24, 2008

We are 100% happy with the Mommy's Helper Contoured Cushie Step Up and highly recommend it. While potty training our son we had already tried several of the typical one piece plastic seats that simply sit on top of our regular toilet and they were all frustrating for him because they either bent under his weight or slipped around too much -- once falling down into the toilet and twice slipping off the side! We figured there had to be some other type of potty seat available but we found the choices at our local big box retailers pretty limited so we tried Amazon and as soon as we saw the pictures of the Mommy's Helper seat we knew it would work for our son. The wide step and side railings give a great feeling of security while our son gets on and off the toilet (we always help or are nearby anyway), the padded seat is comfortable and easy to clean, and the overall braced design uses his own weight to almost lock the seat down onto the toilet while he is using it. No slipping around or wobbles since the first try, and as a bonus the step gives him a comfortable place to rest his feet while sitting. When he isn't using the potty seat it easily folds up and stays out of the way. Our son now loves his "Big Boy" potty seat, and because he feels safe and comfortable while using it we no longer have to drag him to the bathroom when its that time.
We had only one problem when first trying the potty seat on our toilet. Because our elongated Kohler toilets are also slightly higher than a standard toilet the angle of the potty seat's step and seat were off and not level and the slipped around too much. You can tell the design is based on a standard height toilet and its very easy to fix -- simply find something about 2" to 2 1/2" high like a piece of wood or large book to put under the ends of the step ladder and everything will level out perfectly and lock into place. You may need to experiment a little to get the right height for your toilet but it will work.

4 out of 5 stars Works great on elongated toilets & easy to store   October 17, 2008
I really didn't want to go the seperate potty route as our bathroom is tiny as it is. This was a good compromise, it's stores fairly flat and takes less than a second to put up. My daughter loves the 'ladder' idea. Only drawback so far is that the non-slip grooves on the step are a bit deep so she's reluctant to step up when she's barefoot.

4 out of 5 stars Could be sturdier   October 12, 2008
I bought this hoping for a solution to the frightening experience of falling into the toilet or falling off the toilet. My little girl is very independant and wants to do everything herself. We had hit a road block with the use of the toilet because she can't relax and sit on the seat and I have to help her up onto the toilet. She was really excited when we put it together and knew exactly what it was for. However, it isn't very sturdy at all. It is very wabbly when she is climbing up it and the seat has a tendancy to move (I do have an elongated toilet). So this frightens her still. But it does give her a little extra independance so I am not totally disappointed.

4 out of 5 stars Space Saver!   September 26, 2008
My two year old daughter does not like the "little potty chair" set ups. She wants to use the "big one". This allows her to get up by herself (with the step) and be seated comfortably (on the child-sized, padded seat with a step to rest her feet and handles to balance herself). She can set the seat up by herself and removes it when she's done. If you have a smaller bathroom, this product is fantastic in that it takes up little space and can lean between the toilet and the wall next to it when not in use. Apparently our toilet was not a standard size and the little pieces that are supposed to make it fit into the adult seat were too widely space making it an awkward fit. You can very easily remove two of them to make it fit better and (even better) if you have someone in the family who is handy with a drill, you can re-situate the spacers so they make a perfect fit. It took my husband about ten minutes to remove and replace them so they fit out toilet seat properly. If we hadn't needed to do this, I would have given the product five stars, hands down. I highly recommend it over potty seats that take up so much room on the floor and that you have to dump and clean!
