Great Swing September 3, 2008 My 9 week old loves this swing. She will sit for hours watching the animals go around in circles over her head.
There are a couple of issues that make me rate it a 4 star instead of 5: 1) it is very noisy - you can hear the motor running 2) the plugs come loose very easily and then you have to figure out if it has detached at the leg or behind a piece of fabric 3) it is impossible to change the reclining position 4) enormous 5) you need to make sure that the legs are completely level or they will come off of the floor while in the highest speed setting - not enough to tip (yet???) but enough to make you spend about 5 minutes moving the legs so that it doesn't tip
Great things: 1) plug in no batteries, yeah!!!! 2) colors 3) variable speeds 4) music 5) ability to move seat different positions
overall we love this swing and the pros definitely outweigh the cons
Some Improvements, But Missing Some Pros Of Earlier Swings August 23, 2008 We bought this swing after the motor on our Fisher-Price Ocean Wonders Aquarium Cradle Swing died. There are some things we prefer about the Rainforest swing, and some things we miss about the Aquarium swing.
PROS: -AC Adapter! Our 1st kid used her Aquarium swing a lot, and recharging and changing batteries was a pain. Great, great feature that earlier swings SHOULD have had. -Bright mobile characters, and moving leaves are fun for baby to look at, unlike Aquarium swing's 4 identical fish (but we miss the glowing water globe). -Open top design (flip up mobile) means it's extra easy to get baby in and out. -Looks much nicer than previous swing models. -Most of the songs and sounds are more pleasant to hear than the Aquarium swing's (however, see multiple sound cons below).
CONS: -No white noise option. Aquarium swing had a crashing waves mode and a steady rain mode. Rainforest swing has a rain mode, but it's punctuated by animal noises. More fun, but not as helpful for keeping a baby asleep while you wrestle a toddler in to pajamas and bed. -Greensleeves. I understand this is a traditional English folk song and tune, but it's also the tune for Christmas song "What Child Is This?", Very odd to hear year-round. -No lights on mobile. Aquarium swing had a glowing water globe that changed colors and had floating shapes. Would have been nice to see something like that here.
OVERALL: I'd have a hard time choosing between this and the Fisher-Price Ocean Wonders Aquarium Cradle Swing if the Aquarium swing also came with an AC adapter. The Rainforest swing looks nicer and is easier to use, but I don't think it's quite as good at soothing a baby.
A few minor flaws, but still the best swing out there. August 12, 2008 My son isn't crazy about swings (We've tried a few at friends' houses) but when I catch him in the right mood this is a lifesaver. The music choices are great and not terribly annoying. Being able to switch directions is really handy when he gets bored. And of course, the main reason this is the best swing out there... it plugs in to the wall!
There are a couple of flaws though. First, I had to remove the tray because my son's feet kept getting stuck on top of it when he kicked. Even with the seat belt on he was getting stuck in it. Maybe it will be useful when he's more interested in toys, I don't know. He's only 2 months old now. Second is that it only turns to 90 degrees. I wish it would turn a full 180 simply because the way our living room is set up, I can't turn the swing around to let my son look at the fish tank because it's on the right hand side of the swing and the swing only spins to the left.
Finally one with a plug-in option!!! August 7, 2008 I am so glad we have this swing as opposed to any other swing on the market, because we have used it every day for two months, and have yet to put in batteries! It is the only one we found that you can plug in. My baby loves it and it is not noisy at all. I do wish the mobile had some lights or something like the Aquarium version had, but she still enjoys looking at the animals on the mobile anyway. I would recommend it to anyone that plans on using it more than just rarely.
Doesn't sit straight up. August 4, 2008 I absolutely loved this swing when we first started using it at birth, but as my son got a little older we discovered that you can't sit the back up straight enough. My son is 4 months old now and he wants to sit up, not lay back even slightly. So I give a 3 star.
