Product Description

Potty Training is one day of the most challenging processes a parent faces. For some parents, this is a rewarding and memorable experience, while for others it can be a frustrating time. Potty Training in One Day : A Guide for Today's Parents walks parents through the entire potty process - from determining if their child is ready, to how to handle bowel movement training and bedwetting. It answers common questions such as:

* At what age should I start potty training? * How do I know if my child is ready to be potty trained? * What should I do? How should I potty train? * What does potty training in one day mean? * What about Bowel Movement Training? * What should I do if my child resists training? * How do I handle night time potty training and bed wetting?

and much more. My goal is to help parents prepare for this important developmental milestone and make it a positive and memorable experience for both

2 out of 5 stars Gee, Deja Vu?   February 13, 2008

I know the author MENTIONS having used the Azrin book "Potty Train in One Day", but I guess she forgot to mention that that book IS this book! Her "method" is EXACTLY the same as that one, save for a few tweaks here and there (she changes wet pants after an accident before practice runs, he does not).

I bought the Potty Scotty Doll and the book came with it, so at least I didn't shell out money for a book that I essentially already have, but I was VERY disappointed to see basically the Cliff's Notes version on Nathan Azrin's book!

I found the book helpful and it gave me a place to start with potty training. I definitely did not follow all of the suggestions and did not do the walk to the potty 10 times after each accident, but I did use the "potty training a baby doll" suggestion. I feel that as a parent we need to have the tools/knowledge and then we can adapt the situation to fit our own child's needs and personality. I was able to fully potty train my 3 year old Daughter in 3 days using some of the suggestions found in the book.

1 out of 5 stars Worse than useless   November 14, 2007

If I could rate this -5 stars I would do so...I wish we had never tried this book as it set us back 6 months or more.

After days of preparation we held our 'potty party' with the doll, treats, balloons and so on. Our daughter seemed taken aback from the start that we were to throw an unannounced party for such a reason. She was suspicious at best about the activities.

To relate how bad it got - normally after she takes a nap there would be an abundance of requests for pickup. But on 'Potty Party Day' there was nothing for a long time after her expected wakeup time. Concerned, we went in to find her cowering in the corner, totally silent, evidently hoping she could avoid further Potty Party Festivities.

It took another *6 months* before we could get peeing in the potty down and another year before we achieved the other. Clearly some kind of mental block formed.

I have no doubt that the author has zero practical baby experience and is marketing a product to parents like us who foolishly think some kind of quick fix formulaic solution can work with something as variable as a human being.

2 out of 5 stars Questionable Success   March 5, 2007

I didn't find this system to work too well. I tried it with both a son and with a daughter. My daughter does okay, but it certainly took her longer than one day. It was a few months to get to the point of limited accidents. My son didn't respond well at all. He 'passed' all of the readiness indicators, but apparently isn't ready. Also, the panties, etc. that I purchased to go with the book aren't very effective. They're difficult for my children to pull off and on, so it is discouraging for them.

2 out of 5 stars Think twice   January 21, 2007

Our oldest son is 32 months of age and had been showing some inconsistent interest in using the potty. Thinking he may have been ready to take the next step, we purchased this book along with the doll and training pants. He wanted nothing to do with the doll or the roll playing that is advised. And, although we believe in the idea of going from diapers to "big boy" underpants without pull-ups, the suggested response to an accident (which includes 10 back-and-forth runs to the potty and much misery to the parents and child) is pointless. Your child needs to connect the urge to void with using the potty. Simply going through the motions 10 times fails to accomplish this and makes for a decidedly uncozy environment. The book suggests that the intent of this exercise, in part, is to inconvenience the child, but we believe a wet pair of underwear and the embarrassment of failure are inconvenient enough. Endorsement from a television psychologist does not equal medical truth. Think twice before spending hard-earned money on this product.
