Product Description Like the claw of the Harpy eagle the C08 is shaped for controlled pulling cuts. The hawkbill blade shape originated in the marine/fishing industry where severing rope, line, webbing and netting is done at arm's length quickly and efficiently. The curving arc holds what you're cutting against the sharpened edge keeping it from slipping off the tip. Custom knifemaker David Boye developed the dent in the locking lever, which insures the blade remains securely locked open when gripping the handle with force. Cut out of the handle is a drying vent allowing air to circulate around the blade when closed wet. Metal clip is positioned for tip down carry.

Beautiful Harpy May 13, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The harpy is beautiful. Its super sharp, and pretty tough, doesnt dull easily at all, mine's still perfect. Cuts super easily through so many things for tough labor uses, or to use for simple tasks, like skinning fruit. Cleans in one second, doesn't rust, or get dirty. Easy to open, and close, comfortably concealable.
THIS KNIFE IS NOT AS ADVERTISED!!! December 13, 2007 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
WARNING- This knife is NOT as advertised! The blade is just over 2" and NOT 3 3/4" long as advertised. I wasted my time and money with this seller and will never buy from them again. I returned the knife and sent an excellent letter to Amazon.com corporate headquarters explaining why this seller should no longer be allowed to sell through Amazon. Here is a copy of the online advertisement:

Good knife August 25, 2007 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
It looks awesome. The lock holds very well and has a smooth action. the only downside to this knife is that it is extremely difficult to sharpen.
A constant companion June 12, 2007 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
Two decades ago I asked Andy Russel, founder of the Knife Collector's Club, what blade he'd recommend for someone on the road 500 - 600 miles/wk as well as being a rafting/boating enthusiast. He suggested the Harpy & over the past 20 years I've silently thanked him for his jugdment many times. The knife is reliable, handy, sturdy and @ 2 3/4" should be legal to carry in many normal situations. Owing to its unusual & somewhat intimidating appearance, prudence should be exercised when using it, however. To play it safe, check local laws when carrying it, however. When I was a clinical evaluator I learned "that the most restrictive regulations always prevail" so a word to the wise here should be sufficient. The Harpy's ability to cut jammed safety belts, ropes and ines is unsurpassed so just insert it under the belt or rope, then pull it back towards you. I suggest buying the serrated edge to maximize its cutting effectiveness. The best testament could be from the buying public since of the 12+ knives of Spyderco's original line a quarter century ago, only the Harpy (& Police) models are still being crafted & sold.
Excellent knife, but a bot too long May 5, 2007 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
I am really happy with my Spyderco Harpy. Like all Spyderco products, the workmanship is excellent. The spring clip lets the knife rest in your pocket but be easily accessible (or you can remove the clip to make the knife flatter in your pocket.) This is the knife that Hannibal Lecter used to thwart the pickpocket and gut the corrupt official in the book HANNIBAL. One gripe: at 3.75", the blade is too long for everyday carrying in many cities that have knife ordinances (3" max.) Better safe than sorry... check your local laws.
