About Butterfly Hikosuke Tamasu founded Tamasu Co., Ltd. in the small town of Yanai City, Japan, in 1950. This was the beginning of a company career, which is almost unique in table tennis. A renowned international for Japan, Tamasu fulfilled his dream of a lifetime when he made his hobby his profession. At that time, he could hardly imagine that he would make Butterfly the leading brand worldwide. Creativity, durability, and a profound technical knowledge meant success. 0ver and over again he looked for new possibilities in order to optimize techniques by innovative playing material. Tamasu realized that each player is different and has strengths and weaknesses. By offering individual playing material, Tamasu wanted to help players right from the beginning to emphasize their individuality. Since 1983, Butterfly has its own training and research center in Tokyo. Highly qualified scientists co-operate with world-class players and coaches for the development of rubber and blade technology. Butterfly's rubbers and blades are used by more than half of the participants at World and European Championships.

Pretty good for the money November 3, 2008 it was 20 dollars for my and it has a lot of control for me. I am not a pro by any-means and it works for me.
Good upgrade from hard paddle August 18, 2008 If you have been playing with a cheap hard paddle and want to switch to a soft paddle, I recommend trying this paddle. It offers great control but the sponge is a little too thin to produce an adequate amount of spin. The anatomic style handle is a bit uncomfortable to hold after using a straight handle for so long. If you've never played with a paddle with an anatomic handle, I would suggest you find a friend that has one and try it before buying this paddle. Overall it is a decent paddle and has improved my game.
Great Step Up From Beginner Play January 5, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
If you're ready to step up from the simple paddles you got with your table or in a set with a net, this is the paddle to get. The "Derek May" type of Butterfly paddle is thick and squishy. The paddle takes a lot of speed off of the ball so you are able to put the ball where you want on the table. It has nice spin on it too. The paddle teaches you to be a bit more gentel with your shots and more percise with your placement. When switching from this paddle to a more "powerfull" paddle, I noticed that I was able to place the ball on the table easier. It's a great paddle by a great company.
Excellent November 28, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
For $25 I thought this was a very nice paddle. I am an amateur player, I didn't want to spend too much, so I was hesitant about buying it. But after I got it, I was glad I got it. The sponge is pretty thick, and the rubber is awesome, a lot of spin!!! Which is what I expect in a paddle. So, buy this it's a very nice paddle.
Derek Rules November 21, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
The Derek May racket is ideal for defensive players who like putting the ball back in play and not making any mistakes. With the acquisition of this racket, you'll notice a great improvement in control play, as Derek guides your shots precisely all around the table. Derek leads to clean and high - quality play, and is one of the best defensive rackets out there. Points will be extended and offensive players will have to hit some brilliant shots before winning a point. The spin is also not bad at all, despite it saying that it's only 45. The speed is good, superior to Derek's bretheren racket Kassam, which is only a piece of plywood. If you're an offensive player who likes heavy topsin and attacking play, then, unfortunately, Derek is not for you. And remember: Defense Wins Championships!
