Love these...I can walk the dog without breaking my neck! January 3, 2009 I had to ask my husband to put them on my boots for me (the boots' soles were kinda big and I'm at the upper range of the "small" size range) but since then I've figured out the "mounting" procedure and have had no problem getting them on & off my boots myself.
I picked these up specifically because I had taken a nasty spill when walking my dog in icy weather, and I was sore for days. Not fun. These work GREAT and I can walk the dog without feeling like I'm going to slip & fall again. The dog slips around out there more than I do when I wear these!
Don't get me wrong though - it's not like you can go tap dancing or jogging on a smooth iced over lake with absolutely no fear, but these definitely work great to give you a better footing when walking. My dog is pretty spazzy at times and sometimes attempts to go clammering over to other doggies to say hello (part of the reason I fell in the first place before I got these), but now I don't have any trouble keeping a firm footing in icy weather even when the dog isn't on his best behavior.
I definitely recommend these with no reservations. One thing though - if you're not intending on using these on a very regular basis, then save a couple bucks and go with the non-pro version...the only difference is that the pro version includes the velcro strap to ensure the cleats stay on, but they fit on there so well that I can't see them coming loose or needing the strap to stay on unless you wear these puppies so often and for so long that the rubber stretches out, OR if you are at the very bottom of the shoe size range for that cleat size. I wear these 1-2 times a day for 20-40 minute dog walks 7 days a week when the weather's bad, so I invested the extra $7 or so in the Pros juuuust in case. And I think it was worth it. It's by far my best winter purchase ever, and at a very reasonable price too.
Great product but Beware of road salt January 3, 2009 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Got Yak Trax for dog walking in Wisconsin. Great product, but the road salt created rust and ate through the metal coils. Had to throw them away within two months.
Slippery on bare concrete December 29, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This work great in the ice and snow but if you hit a patch of bare concrete, the steel springs that keep you from slipping on ice become slippery. Once I found that out, I just avoid bare concrete while I am wearing them.
Slipping on ice... December 27, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I live in Montreal, on Winter time we could export snow and ice. After slipping many times on one of our thousands ice-caped sidewalks, I tried this Yaktrax Pro. It is okay for walking on the snow, but on the ice it doesn't work, you can't walk normally, you must be very carefull. After another falling I don't know if I'll walk on the ice with it again.
Amazing! December 21, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I think I could walk up an ice-covered mountain with YakTrax on! They are relatively easy to put on, and they stay securely in place. I picked the Pro version and leave them on my boots most of the time. (They do tend to slip on indoor floors, so if you're in and out of stores a lot, get the regular ones, which are a bit easier to remove.) My job as a real estate agent requires me to be out in all kinds of weather checking on vacant houses, and I wouldn't be able to get around in the winter without YakTrax. I am always confident that the ice grippers will give me sure footing on packed ice and snow.
