Great with Boots, Not So Good with Shoes March 10, 2010

I bought these to replace my old merino wool socks, which I wore daily throughout the winter. My old socks were designed like athletic socks, with concentric bands of elastic running up from just above the ankle to the top of the sock. The socks stayed nicely in place even with no shoes or boots on. These socks, however, have a single band of elastic at the top. This isn't a problem with boots, which hold the socks up, but if you're wearing shoes, these socks shimmy down your calf and bunch up at your ankles. On the plus side, they are very warm and cozy, just a tad itchy until after a few washings, but perfect for outdoor activities. Whether they're right for you depends on how you plan to use them.

I'm a bit picky about my socks ---- I want something to keep my feet warm and toasty but I don't want anything too thick and bulky. I also can't stand scratchy, itchy wool. These socks are EXACTLY what I needed. I tried them on as soon as they came and went for a romp in the 18 inches of snow outside. My feet stayed nice and warm, they let my feet breathe, and the merino wool is very soft. GREAT SOCKS!

I ordered these socks a little over a month before leaving for the Winter Olympics, in Vancouver, BC. They were to be delivered in 7 business days, through UPS. Truthfully, I lost track of time, and didn't notice they didn't arrive until the week before I was to leave. I contacted the company (no way to call- had to use Amazon compaint system) and they said UPS hadn't picked them up yet. I didn't really buy that, but what could I do. I got the socks the day before I was on the plane, just in the nick of time.
The socks themselves are great. Very warm, but not wet- they wick great. I like that they are colored, so I can wear them to semi-formal events.
